Not too sure what to make of this ;

The full veil, or niqab
The wearing of the niqab has been hotly debated
A veiled Muslim woman will deliver this year's alternative Christmas speech on Channel 4, the broadcaster has said.

Khadija, a Zimbabwean-born British citizen who has been wearing the full veil - or niqab - for 10 years, has been given the slot.

The message will reflect a year in which the wearing of religious clothing and symbols have "dominated the news agenda", said a Channel 4 spokesman.

A counterpoint to the Queen's Christmas speech first appeared on C4 in 1993.

The spokesman added that the specific contents of the message would be released closer to Christmas Day.

Covering up

Previous presenters have included Sharon Osbourne, Ali G, The Simpsons, the Rev Jesse Jackson and the late Quentin Crisp.

Khadija is a freelance lecturer in Islamic studies and the Koran.

The right to wear the niqab made the headlines earlier this year when the Leader of the House of Commons, Jack Straw, said that it hindered communication.

The niqab - Arabic for "full veil" - means covering up completely, including gloves and a face covering which leaves just a slit for the eyes.

Channel 4's spokesman also said that the controversy has "generated a debate about multiculturalism, secularism and integration - a debate in which British Muslims have played a key role and one that will shape the future of British society".

by Iumbering her with " Sharon Osbourne, Ali G, The Simpsons, the Rev Jesse Jackson and the late Quentin Crisp" they just degraded her. the aIternative message has aIways been done as a type of comedy/mockery of the queens speech.

why anyone would want to go on national television, and justify why they are doing what they are, to an audience just waiting to degrade her and her beliefs, is well beyond my understanding.

got no idea why people think they need to go to such humiliating extremes!!!

Should we really believe this...NO...why? well mainly because the media are liars and we should not really think like this of another Muslim sister regardless of what the media is saying.

It could very well be an imposter...maybe there doing this stunt for ratings...i don't know but i know this much we should really really ignore news like this cos its just mind games (my opinion).....I feel they are indirectly trying to humiliate the masses of sisters out there by having a MUSLIM sister going on T.V for CHRISTMAS (which has nothing to do with us)..or maybe again its an imposter!

muslimah_119, is right, most likely it is a stunt, however stunt or no stunt it is still going to have a negative affect on the way the veil is viewed, through media and on a day-to-day basis, it is like adding fuel to fire. fun for those to watch eh!

since the issue of the veil has been highlighted, the negative coverage of the media and the response to it, has had a bad affect on sisters wanting to wear the veil and some who are already wearing it. unfortunately some sisters submitted to removing it completely. so no matter who does what, why or where, some poor soul is always affected by it in one way or the other.

may Allah سبحانه وتعالى safeguard and strengthen our belief and imaan.

True, the female voice is also her awrah. I really don't know what sister Khadija can say on the subject that has not already been said. It must be remebered that C4 likes to 'push the boundaries'. Before it used to be immodest/lewd types of programmes. Now, this ...

Salaam Aleykum

I would like to argue the opposite point to all these other ones...Isnt it true that people say "muslims dont stand up"? or "the muslim community dont do enough to educated people?" now if this person is muslim then what is she doing? not everyone thinks the voice to all extent is awrah....I mean for example the woman can teach men, behind a purdah or a woman can go to the market and speak to the trader.....so the purdah is a means to stop something more sinful but if it will not lead to that is there any harm?

Lets see what she is going to say...Insha Allah lets pray to Allah SWT that it will be somehting good, something that will educate the people of this country and show them that in fact muslims are not all 'bad' people or that they do not 'force' women to wear the veil. If indeed this is a stunt by Channel 4 or something strange willl happen then may Allah SWT save us from this kind of fitnah.

If somehting strange does occur im sure there will be an uproar from everyone.

Not to say that I agree 100% with everything that I have written but its just to give another side to the argument since this one was all one sided.....

Your thoughts and comments would greatly be appreciated

JazakAllahu Khayr

Was Salaam

Some more information on the speaker, Mrs Khadija Ravat - a part-time teacher at Al-Aqsa School, Leicester.

Anyone know the school?

Another link to the highly moderate (!) Daily Express

www.express.co.uk/news_detail.html?sku=833

This paper does not even understand the basics of Islam but is happy to comment!

From article :

"She prays several times a day, in accordance with the strictest interpretation of Islam."
