imam tries his utmost best, soley for the pleasure of Allah then for the benefit of others. imams dont receive the respect they have earned.

its either, the imam is from back home, hence being a bit back dated or the imam being youngsters whom have graduated here by respscted, well known institutes, because of their age or maybe their past, the elders think they dont need to listen to them - they are immature!! (astagfirullah) but this is what some ppl think.

what??! the way i see it, if a scholar is 15 yrs younger than you, you respect him!!
why?? because in Allah سبحانه وتعالى eyes, he has a higher status then any of us who are not as learned as them.

when i was in darul-uloom, half the teachers were my age and some younger. but they were my teachers, who taught me with wisdom.

its just the mentality of some ppl that just ruin it for all!!~

But such imams are not welcome in reality by most asain committee's be they guji/paki/bengi.

Most committee's (and 99.9% of the locals) love these imams/scholars and to be honest who don't/wont but some only like them if they are outsiders who come for a month or so or the odd day to give a bayaan or 2. Having such imams as their actual local full-time imam is something else who's constantly telling you the corrects ways of not only your imaaniat and ibaadaat but also day-in-day-out telling us to rectify of aqlaak, mamulaat and mausheraat (which is the most hardest of peoples nuffs to take - special when you ask them to change age-old baseless rasaam and rewaj). 90% of musjid committee's will NOT want an imam to have such an influence over the local community that according to their thinking it puts their authority (what authority!! Imam/scholar has the authority from Allah not the blasted committees) in question. THEY want to the MAIN people not the local imam/scholar. Its even worst for them if that local imam is a local brit imam as then its "who does he think he is telling us what we can/cant do. He was a kid few years ago now he thinks he's some sort of sufi!!!"

Man i can tell you stories of how some brit imams in UK (also in hackney) have been treated and pillared by committee's and other older generation members simply cause they speak out against rasam and rewaaj (with hikmah and baseerah of course) which some have ingrained in their deen thinking its ok. Some of these "elders" have gone out of their way to spread lies about the imam to undermine his position in the eyes of others saying he shaves his beard, he thinks like a salafi / ahle hadith (as in they also hate rasam/rewaj), he don't understand these things, he's creating fitna (as in spliting the community between those who wanna follow simple deen and those mainly-elders who wanna follow mix of deen and culture).

Ok I should do more acting and less talking.

InshAllah Ill try and get on my local (jamia) masjid committee in the future, when im abit older (and wiser?) and if I have enough money. At the moment though im broke, so its gonna be more complaining till then brothers :).

well, in reality that is what we need!!
only then can a community improve.
if the committee and the imam have a good relationship with each other wherein they can confront and tackle any problems as a team, it would be great. only that way the committee can carry on with their work and the imam with his work.

may Allah سبحانه وتعالى grant every masjid just that.

after approx 2 years since i started this thread my conclusion more or less now is - its not mostly the elderly who run our masjids who are at fault but a large if not majority reason is young brothers themselves my age around 28 - 40 years old are good are speaking that " we need this and that, we need change etc" and all the rest of if - but only a very very small number (too small to actually do anything or run anything properly) are prepared to put that mouthing off into proactive regular action.

inshort we're (youngsters) mostly all mouth but very little action. Kinda feels like eating humble pie to me to be honest but thats what ive concluded
