Salam alaykum

Just a few more days of Shabaan then we're into the blessed month of Ramadan Insha'Allah. As most us know Ramadan Radio stations will soon be broadcasting up n down the country (UK). So what do people actually make of these?

Advantageous or Detrimental?

Educational or a waste of time?

Personally, I think its a double edged sword, Alhumdulillah beneficial and educational programs can and are broadcast but I think for some people, and perhaps the youngsters more particularly, they can get 'sucked into it' and spend no endof time listening to it instead of utilising that time to increase and engage in ibadaah, Zikr etc and many other good deeds which could otherwise be performed. Some have even used it as a means of entertainment by using the phone in facility to prank and play practical jokes on air.

What do the scholars say with regards to these stations and have they advised on its use and/ or benefits?

I'll leave off here and invite you to put forward your views and comments.

Jazakallah

Wasalam

ps please remember this bro of yours in your duas during the blessed month!

Assalamoalaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh

Alhamdulillah, it is commendable that you have brought this topic to the fore, brother.

I agree that Radio Ramadan et al can sometimes be very engrossing (a commendation to the broadcasting skills of the presenters!) and there is no doubt that it can even prevent a person from spending quality time in solitude, remembering Allah and engaging in His worship - which is the ultimate purpose of our days and nights on earth, and even more so during Ramadhaan.

Nevertheless I wouldn't go so far as to condemn them altogether. Perhaps the solution would be for the ulama to advise the organisers of these stations to make the following adjustments to their schedules:

1) Limit the light-hearted / informational / discussional (live) programmes to only a few hours per day (2-4), and that also to times such as iftar or before taraweeh prayers, when people tend to be resting anyway.

2) Broadcast regular reminders that although listening to the station can be of benefit, the ultimate aim of Ramadhaan is the remembrance of Allah, and so encourage listeners to actually switch off the radio - lol - that would be a first ! - and engage in dhikr or ibadah. (insha Allah !)

3) The majority of broadcasts should be recorded so as to benefit the listeners through pure reminders (i.e. the Quran and ahadith) and also to ensure that the organisers have sufficient time to devote themselves to dhikr and ibaadah too.

Oh well, those are my views on the topic. May Allah make it of benefit.

Fee amaanillah,

Wassalaam

Salams for those who arent fortunate enough to have radio ramadan in their city or country click here to listen to Leicester Radio Ramadan online.

Alhumdulillah they have Shuyukh presenters and I believe Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq delivers a programme as well (not sure when though).

Ramadhan radio is good, but a'maal is better. We (older people) should do dhikr and let the children hear the kids show as they are very educational but... cooking show? Interesting. lol.

Hmmmm cooking program...gotta learn how to (mass) fry the samosas and bhajias (pakoras) proper! lol

On a more serious note though, I had to pop into the supermarket on the weekend and the place was heaving with Muslims, moreso than normal....its kinda like we all doing food shopping to take our mind off food 'cos we cant eat the food.

Back to the topic though, Jazakallah sister Shahly for the beautifully constraucted answer and nasihah with regards to Radio Ramadan.

Salams Just received this info. by email from a brother and thought I'd share here

Quote:
One of the programmes that takes place on Radio Ramadan includes Sheikh Riyadhul Haq giving tafseer every day after Taraweeh (UK time - around 10:15 pm for now) of the surah that was prayed in taraweeh on that night. It is about 30 mins long, and is very benficial.

I have also updated the Media player found on islamicpoems.blogspot.com to auto play Radio Ramadan for your convenience.
