Wifaqul Ulama urges Muslims in Britain to attempt to sight the moon for Rabīʿ al-ʾAwwal 1447 on the evening of Saturday 23rd August 2025. This will be the 29th Ṣafar 1447.
We follow the same Moonsighting process for all 12 months and all proceedings will be live on Twitter.
SAUDIA AND UAE START THE MONTH OF RABI AL AWWAL ON DIFFERENT DATES - A SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT?
Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as far as we know, tend to follow an identical calendar.
In what appears to be an unprecedented occurance, the UAE correctly declared that it was impossible to sight the moon on Saturday 23 August, and will begin Rabi al Awwal on Monday.
Saudi’s calendar appears to be in line with the impossible moon, and they begin their month on Sunday.
The first day of Rabi' al-Awwal is on Sunday, August 24, in the following countries:
Iraq
Saudi Arabia
Qatar
Bahrain
Kuwait
Palestine
Egypt
Tunisia
The first day of Rabi' al-Awwal is on Monday, August 25, in the following countries:
