NEW CRESCENT SOCIETY ANNOUNCEMENT
MOON FOR DHUL HIJJAH: SEEN IN THE UK!!

DHUL QADAH HAS 29 DAYS
WEDNESDAY 28 MAY = 1 DHUL HIJJAH 1446

EID DATES:

EID AL ADHA (LOCAL SIGHTING): FRIDAY 6 JUNE

FASTING OF ARAFAH: THURSDAY 5 JUNE

A UNITED EID IN THE UK

PLEASE NOTE: We will be doing Eid a day before Morocco - a very rare occasion when we have seen the moon, with our naked eyes, before Morocco.

What an evening! Alhamdulilah we had people look across the country, in Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Croydon, Northala, Wanstead, Cambridge, Norwich, Leicester, Birmingham, Manchester, York, Bradford, Leeds, Bolton, Nelson, Blackburn, Preston, Liverpool Middlesbrough, Glasgow … and other places too!

The moon was seen today, by naked eye in TWO locations.

One location was in Dewsbury, and seen by Tahir Dalal, Muhammad Saghir Dar, Muhammad Badat and others.

The other location was in York, and was seen by Yaseen Bikha, and Ali Bikha

This is a 17 hour moon, and somewhat of a UK record. This is by no means an ordinary moonsighting. Both locations initially had to locate the moon with binoculars, and then saw with their eye. Thanks specially to Qamar Uddin @ICOUK , the OG of moonsighting, who got the moon in York with his group.

Thanks again to EVERYONE who has been going out every single month - subhanallah, at the end of this calendar month, we would have completed a full 8 years of moonsighting!

And again, today, we have absolutely shown that an Islamic calendar, based on local sighting is entirely possible in the UK.

For the next Islamic year of 1447AH, we have a lot of NEW things lined up - let us know if you’re interested. This will include a MOONSIGHTER’S RETREAT, and inshallah (finally) A WEBSITE, more TRAINING, and inshallah a renewed focus on working with mosques around the country.

EID MUBARAK

These are a blessed ten days, and traditional days of pilgrimage, sacrifice, and ceasefire. We make dua that all our pilgrims go and return from Hajj safely, with their pilgrimage accepted, and feeling pure as a newborn. And of course, we make dua for all those around the world suffering, especially those in Gaza, and pray they also have peaceful days and a safe and blessed Eid, insha allah.

That's probably accurate for UAE etc. But here in the UK, we have Ulama who follow strict guidlines and we have another group that only follow local (within UK) naked eye sightings only.

Both organisations have confirmed local sightings. It was a huge day for the UK because this time, Morocco didn't have a sighting and with the weather we had yesterday, we would've relied heavily on Morocco.

Amazing that this was an 18 hours old moon that is most likely taken by CCD imaging (even though it was taken during the day time). Something they call a record Sighting

Whereas the moon sighted with naked eye in the UK was 17 hours old.

It still amazes me that declarations are made from the Middle East when the moon is still 5 hours old for example!

The above hilal image was generated 18 hours before conjunction/moon birth. This is for demonstration purpose, on 26th May 2025.

I can't understand why this effort. Nothing will happen if a day offset is absorbed. Even shariah recommends to keep calm and postpone the beginning of month a day later.

Before 80s, in India, eid day used to change every 30/40 kms. In cities, the shias used to celebrate with announcement from Iran. The Barelvis insisted that matla changes every 40 Kms. A few towns used to celebrate after hearing News from Radio Pakistan at 8:00 PM PST. The Indian government had dilemma on when to declare eid holiday for their offices spread over the whole India, same with state governments too.

Then in late 80s all India conference was arranged, it was attended by every jamaath. Then it was agreed that Hilal sighting in any part of India shall apply for entire India (kerala exempted). Now Calcutta to Ahmadabad, Delhi to Kanyakumari, eid Hilal sighting is accepted.
The Barelvis resisted for a few years then they also joined the main stream.

Today a minority faction from Ahle hadeeth (majority ahle hadeeths follow us) and kerala accepts saudi sighting. Kashmir takes pakistani sighting, it is small minority.

Alhamdulillah now there is single day eid in entire India.

I am sharing this for our England brothers. Whatever study I have done, I felt there are no strict sharia rules for this. If ijmaa/consensus is reached by moderate rightly guided experts, the same can be accepted by all.

Let there be single day eid by Muslims in England. A few zealots shall also fall in line. Note that when we are in minority we shall go for a moderate approach, zeal can wait. I mean, a person in Hyderabad can accept Hilal sighting from Lucknow or reject it. A moderate approach is accept it to keep things simple.

I had heard from scholars in Haramain, follow modern day true scholars books for Haj, the old books were written when the crowd was 1/10 the present crowd. Now Mina is part of makkah city, Rammi time is extended upto dawn, no harm etc. etc.

I had read that, scholars had said, if Saudi honestly explains its moon sighting methodology, it can be considered in sub-continent.

Unfortunately on the other side, a country like Afghanistan, moon sighting is announced before moon birth. Similarly in khyber pakhtoon area of pakistan.
