السلام عليكم و رحمة الله وبركاته
Respected Musallees,
Some people are forwarding messages trying to justify the impossible Saudi sighting of yesterday, by sending photos of today's visible moon.
The simple answer to these people is to ask them: did you sight the moon yesterday?
I'm sure the answer is a clear no, as the moon here in the UK was around 7+ hours old.
Too young to sight.
If the moon cannot be sighted on the 29th, what is the instruction of Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم ?
فإن غم عليكم فأكملوا العدة ثلاثين يوما...
If it is cloudy (not visible) *complete 30*.
That should have been done.
That was the Prophetic instruction that was ignored.
Now the next night when the moon is 24 hours older, making it 31+hours, the same people want to justify their Eid on the 30th of Ramadhan.
This is what happens when people are not aware of the rules of Shariah and astronomy, adding 2+2 and coming up with 5.
Further when the moon is not sighted on the 29th, and then at the completion of the 30th day, people out of ignorance start commenting that this is the 2nd day moon, I refer them to the Hadith of Sahih Muslim.
Abul Bakhtari reported:
We went out to perform Umrah and when we encamped in the valley of Nakhlah, we tried to see the new moon. Some of the people said: It was three nights old, and others (said) that it was two nights old. We then met Ibn Abbas and told him we had seen the new moon, but that some of the people said it was three nights old and others that it was two nights old. He asked on which night we had seen it; and when we told him we had seen it on such and such night, he said the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) had said Verily Allah deferred it till the time it is seen, *so it is to be reckoned from the night you saw it.* [Sahih Muslim 534]
And further this behaviour has been described in the Hadith as a sign of Qiyamah.
So my sincere advice to those who are sending these pictures with messages round is to read the above, and in future try to act upon the SUNNAH.
This way ان شاء الله we will be celebrating our Ramadhan and Eidain on correct days.
When it is an issue of money, then we make sure that we not are being misinformed or scammed, and we do the research to come to a correct conclusion. Why then on this very important issue of a Fardh are we wilfully accepting the impossible?
The record for a naked eye sightings of the moon is, 15 hours and 32 minutes, the Saudi sighter yesterday claimed a sighting of the moon which was 4 hours and 37 minutes. Goes against all the opinions of the experts, Muslim and non-Muslim.
