📌 *Rabīʿ ath-Thānī 1446 Moonsighting, Thursday 3rd October 2024*

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُه

Wifaqul Ulama urges Muslims in Britain to attempt to sight the moon for Rabīʿ ath-Thānī 1446 on the evening of Thursday 3rd October 2024. This will be the 29th Rabīʿ al-ʾAwwal 1446.

We follow the same Moonsighting process for all 12 months and all proceedings will be live on Twitter.

As far as I'm aware, The mosques that follow the ulama and local sighting, is based upon the criteria set by Wifaqul Ulama sighting news and Allah knows best

The Wifaqul ulema criteria had:

Rabiul awwal have 30 days.

Muharram and safar had 30 days.
DhulHijjah had 29 days.

Where did the local moon sighting missed, Wifaqul ulema agrees that on 29th of Dhulhijjah local sighting was not possible hence they relied on foreign sighting. New Crescent society didn't agree to 29th dhulhijjah's foreign positive sighting.

We can look for consensus among non-saudi sighting.

If I'm not mistaken:

NCS do not have any Ulama backing
NCS only use sightings done in the UK (local) and they are very good at it
NCS sightings are accepted by WU.

WU are backed by Ulama.
WU also accept sightings from other reliable sources who share the same horizon/sighting from neighbouring Muslim countries.

Saudi do not have moon sightings except for Ramadhan, Shawwal and Hajj as far as I can remember.

Decades back, India also faced the similar problem. Hilal was valid for about 100 Kms, disintegrated. Eid was national Holiday, it was total chaos.

But consensus was reached that all states will have unified eid and moon sighting any where in India was accepted. UK is similar to a state of India. They can also accept moonsightings from neighboring countries.

During Haj, Maulana Makki DB said, don't refer to books compiled in your countries in 1940s or 50s, those books were written when crowd was 1/10th of today. Accept rulings of local ulema of Hijaz. Things have changed, local ulema have reached consensus based on large crowd of Hajees, facilities etc. Now Mina is inside city of Makkah, stoning (rammi) is allowed till dawn the next day etc.

So our request to ulema to adopt the current situation and offer ruling on moon sighting.

I remember Mufti Taqi Usmani db as saying indian sub continent can discuss on accepting saudi sighting if it was not ambiguous.
