A RARE UNITED EID?
We are thankful that we are heading towards a united Eid this year - alhamdulillah - and that families will celebrate together. However this years united Eid is based on an astronomical coincidence. This is the only Eid al Fitr scheduled to be united for another decade!

SAUDI FOLLOWERS
For mosques who follow Saudi, they will also have Eid on Wednesday 10 April, insha allah.
Saudi started the month of Ramadan a day earlier and so will be looking a day earlier than the rest of the world, Monday 8 April. On Monday, the moon will already be below the horizon when Saudi go to sight the moon, and so there is no chance of a Saudi moonsighting.
Might Saudi produce a scientifically impossible moon? On this occasion - this is unlikely. Since 2002, Saudi have made some calendar reforms which state that they wont claim to see a moon below the horizon (though this rule has been broken!!); however as their Umm al Qura calendar and media all all point to Eid on Wednesday 10 April, we confidently offer this date for our prediction.

LOCAL UK MOONSIGHTING
For those who follow local sighting, we will be looking for the moon on Tuesday 9 April, which is the 29th of Ramadan. The data suggests we should see it, insha allah, as long as the skies are clear [see map].
If we see the crescent, the Ramadan will have 29 days and Eid will be on Wednesday 10 April.
Join us on our LIVE STREAM this Tuesday as we will be looking for the crescent from around the country, co hosted by the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
In the event that the moon is not seen, Eid would be on the Thursday, but chances of that appear slim.
