The governments new definition of extremism should be worrying to all of us.

This is a dangerous slippery slope whereby anything that doesnt align with the secular narrative will be deemed extreme, to the extent that believing in metaphysical realties of the Hereafter will soon be seen as problematic.

The endeavour to change definitions in such a manner is the first step towards distorting reality.

The sectarians among us need to put aside their internal differences, and now collectively think on how to respond to these new challenges, lest we see the day where acting upon our basic d?n will be almost impossible - and Allahs refuge is sought. And lets not forget to make special dua in this blessed month, inshallah.

5Pillars was going to be included in the list of extremist groups mentioned by Michael Gove in parliament today, but he refrained from doing so at the very last minute.

Even if we were included, lets be clear about a few things:

- 5Pillars has *never* applied for government funding, and we have consistently discouraged Muslim organisations from doing so.

- 5Pillars has *never* sought access to influence ministers or MPs. Thats never been our strategy because we value our independence and impartiality.

- 5Pillars has *never* wanted to train public service workers or civil servants.

Therefore, this new non-statutory definition of extremism will not impact
@5Pillarsuk
.

Only our regulator
@impress_org
can hold 5Pillars to account about our journalistic standards and ethics.

Only our trade union
@NUJofficial
can inform us of any changes to our journalistic rights and privileges.

We have the same qualifications, and undergone the same industry training and disciplines as any other MSM British news publications its not the job of
@RishiSunak
,
@michaelgove
or
@10DowningStreet
to be labelling and targeting members of the free press whom they ideologically disagree with while claiming to be champions and upholders of freedom of expression.
