They would research and be cautious when it comes to knowledge. We should be careful in speech as people that hear us will imitate and repeat what they hear. Also If we are going to imitate or repeat what is heard, first comprehend what is being said.
Jundub bin ‘Abdullah said: “We were with the Prophet
, and we were strong youths, so we learned faith before we learned Qur’an. Then we learned Qur’an and our faith increased thereby.”
(Ibn Majah 61)
I know a scholar who saw the youth didn’t know how to read the quran. So he become concerned. In beginning, he started to teach them arabic letters and pronunciation. This assisted, corrected their daily prayers.
While speaking to responsible individual at mosque, he said ” MashAllah, the youth with me are keen and learning the Quran”.
So the individual said to the scholar “you should know as a scholar, first they should learn faith then Quran”. He stopped the scholar from teaching quran to focus solely on speeches and discussions. This is an example of ignorance. He didn’t understand the full meaning and context of the narration.
He made a difference between quran and faith when ‘quran is faith and faith is quran’ i.e. quran increases faith, faith results in wanting to read quran. They are not different rather they compliment one another.
