Introduction: In the Quran, it is asked: "Are the people of the cities confident that Our Punishment will not overtake them while they are sleeping at night? Are they confident that it will not come during the day while they are enjoying themselves in sport?" Only those who reject the Divine Threat of Punishment feel confident in the Plan of Allah.
Divine Punishment and Warning: Many Muslims seem to overlook the dimension of divine punishment in natural disasters. They fail to derive lessons from the havoc caused by earthquakes, floods, and similar catastrophes. Recently, Turkey, Morocco, and Libya have been targeted by the Wrath of Allah.
Excessive Immorality and Kufr: These nations have witnessed a surge in immorality, sin, and disbelief that has crossed all bounds. When societies reach the point of no return, divine punishment is inevitable. Sadly, many Muslims have become hardened in their hearts, deaf to advice, and blind to the signs of Allah's Wrath.
Misguided Responses: Instead of recognizing these disasters as divine warnings, some seek relief aid from non-Muslim nations, ignoring Allah's role entirely. It's essential to understand that the storms and floods are manifestations of Allah's Wrath.
No Solution from Aid: No amount of aid from non-Muslim nations can resolve the misery caused by sin and transgression. The Quran and Hadith are replete with warnings about Allah's Wrath for transgressors.
Incremental Punishment: Initially, Allah afflicts people with bearable punishments to provide them with the opportunity to repent and reform. When these warnings are ignored, more significant punishments, such as earthquakes and floods, become permissible for the flagrant transgressors.
Divine Decree: Every person, building, and item affected by disaster is earmarked by Allah for punishment. There are no accidents or mishaps in Allah's Plan. As the Quran says, "Not a leaf drops (from a tree) but He is aware."
Signs of the Hour: Our Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) mentioned that the Hour of Qiyaamah will approach when trust (Amaanat) is destroyed, and affairs are entrusted to the unfit. This leads to natural disasters and disfigurement.
Conclusion: The Wrath of Allah Azza Wa Jal is incremental and planned. Only turning to Allah with repentance (Inaabat) can prevent it. However, it seems that this Ummah has lost its spiritual bearings. More divine punishment may be on the horizon. May Allah guide this Ummah to the Straight Path.
