Recently I have been having doubts about Islam due to Hell and other punishments. To be blunt, the horrific punishments of hell sound over the top and exaggerated and disproportionate and sound like they are just meant to scare people into obeying and they sound extremely sadistic with the torture parts. Yes things such as backbiting or cheating are bad and should be punished but I am unsure someone who does that deserves horrific torture and torment for thousands of years for one thing. It does not sound just and just seems very cruel and all. Such as someone withholding info will have their tongue dragged with fire...that seems very excessive and cruel and disproportionate

Also something that bothers me is how Allah uses Hell to scare and threaten people. For example we are supposed to believe drawing animate beings is evil for some reason when most people do not worship their drawings and little children draw too yet we have to agree cuz Allah is like "Cuz I said so and if you disagree then I'll torture you for thousands of years".

The fear I get reminds of the fear and disgust I feel towards horrible war criminals or even fictional monsters as a child and I am unsure if this is a deity I want to believe in. Honestly I am starting to resent Allah as I believe he coerces people to believe in him and not sure how its mercy when the other option is horrible torture.

Dr Zakir Naik explains this very well.

It about being Just!

Allah is the Creator. Only He can create. It is a sign we should ponder over. It's a challenge. If we can't put life into it, then don't attempt imitate The Creator. Children who draw are innocent and it's our responsibility to teach them about who the Maker is! The punishment is not for thousands of years, it's until life is put into the object. Accept the challenge and fail, the consequences are known. Reject the challenge and be saved. It's easier than rocket science to understand.

Believing in Allah and His final Prophet (saw) protects you from such punishments. You can choose not to believe as Allah has given you free choice. If you choose something or nothing, other than Allah, then you have chosen to worship your Ego. When you die, what will your ego offer you as reward or punishment?

You might say you don't worship your ego, but that's a lie. (Ego = Nafs = Desire)
