If there is a locality, it hasn’t rained for sometime. Allah has commanded, its practice of Prophet
that all inhabitants of that locality, men, women, elderly and children in modest clothing with humility leave that town/city. They should proceed to the outskirts for prayer (Salat al Istisqa).
They should exclaim “O Allah rain is in your hands. Clouds are in your control. Please give us rain we are in need of water!”
Aisha (rad) reported the people complained to the Prophet
of the lack of rain… He said: You have complained of drought in your homes, and of the delay in receiving rain at the beginning of its season. Allah has ordered you to supplicate Him has and promised that He will answer your prayer..”
(Dawud 1173)
Al-Walid bin Uqbah, the governor of Al-Madinah, sent me to ask Ibn Abbas about how Prophet
would perform Salat Al-Istisqa. I came to him and he said: ‘The Messenger of Allah would go out in modest dress, humbly, imploring…'”
(Tirmidhi 558)
My dear, more important than crops, water, medicine, home, more important than anything in this universe, for Allah it’s ‘guidance’.
If one receives guidance, he achieves success in both worlds. If one does receive crops or water, its not always necessary. If water is available sometimes and its not, this is not a problem. For example after one partakes food, he can be without food for a number of hours.
But deprived of guidance even a moment, then it’s a moment lost. Thus, guidance is always necessary. Today, man is honest tomorrow dishonest. Today on guidance tomorrow on misguidance. This shouldn’t be the case. Rather, man is in constant need for guidance
My dear, guidance is more important than rain. Just as we adopt humility and vulnerability in asking for rain (Salat al Istisqa). Allah would pity us and give rain. Adopt humility and vulnerability when asking for guidance. Allah would pity us and grant guidance.
