Years back I heard karguzari of UK from visiting Indian jamaath.

They were sitting in a masjid, but the building looked like there were 2 Halls and later merged together for single Hall. An aged brother narrated details to the visiting jamaat.

He told that:

Years back this was only Islamic center in the city. I was administrator for this center. A few Local families use to visit this Islamic center only on Sunday afternoon for a get together.

Regarding the two halls, one hall was a assembly hall and other was cold storage to preserve dead bodies.

From Sunday evening to next Sunday morning, when a Muslim passed away, I was called by the relatives, was paid a fee, I used to bring the body and preserve it in the cold storage. Then did ghusl, kafan and waited for Muslim families on Sunday afternoon. I used to lead janazah prayers and bury them in burial ground.

............ karguzari from administrator ends here...

another karguzari is that Eid greeting letters from sub-continent relatives used to reach UK after a week or two. Muslims in Uk used to say "Vowww... Ramadhan is over and eidul fitr is also over".

And years later, we hear in advance that Ramadhan will start on Friday and Eid will be on Sunday and the following year Eid will be on Monday and this can go on for many years in advance.

Tech moves on, but we still need to abide by the Sunnah.

Today, in the UK we have many Masaajids now, Alhumdulillah. Situation has changed a lot from those days. There are around 2000 Masjids in the UK now. 400 in London alone!

Churches are being given to Muslims! Churches are being converted to Masjids. Pubs (Sharab khana) are being converted to Masjids.

2nd and 3rd generation Muslims are getting closer to the Deen. etc etc.

Sticking to stories heard in India of UK. I recall an Indian brother telling us that he heard of my former local mosque in London and the greatness of the work of Tabligh from this area/mosque, in his local village mosque. Alhumdulillah. The brothers were happy to hear that their little masjid in London was known in remote villages around the world.

I once heard Hamzah Yusuf say something about delusional thinkers.

It was more of a joke/anecdote. I can't remember if it was a real incident.

A Muslim man from the middle East says, "Ana mareez, as-shifa hua al-Amreeka" I am sick and my cure is America

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون

Bismillah.

It was a true incident I heard him mention it in a lecture titled “Western Ailments Islamic Medicine” which came in two audio cassettes. The Shaykh Hamza Yusuf of the 1990’s was a fiery speaker and all about being defiantly and unapologetically Muslim.

The present Shaykh Hamza Yusuf is very different to the pre 9/11 one.

Can I say UK was easily accessible to Indian sub-continent. There was no language barrier as well.

Unfortunately Central America was unlucky here.

I met middle class muslim brothers who sold their houses, plots and visited UK. And from Pakistan.... Allahu akbar, the sacrifices can't be imagined.

Bismillah

That Karguzari from the U.K sounds like from the 1950’s the work of Deen has really started with full force in the 1960’s.

As for countries in Latin America. My understanding is the vast majority of immigrants that went their were Arab Christians from Lebanon and Shaam. And of those Arab who broadly came under the banner of Islam many were Shia and it’s off shoots Druze and Alawite.

In those countries many Muslim Arab men went there to earn livelihoods and without their families. They married local women and the children were raised as Christians.

Of those people who were Muslims and who settled there with their families. They did not set up religious institutions and did not pay much attention to Deen. Their main focus was preserving their Arab culture rather then Deen. So they lived in communities with large number of Arab Christians
And ended up adopting their ways and became assimilated with them.

In U.K. even though in certain places we lived amongst other Desi people who were Hindus and Sikhs. As Muslims we still preserved our Islamic identity.

And ALLAH knows best!

Sold their lands and plots to visit the U.K. to study for business for work what purpose.???

Incidentally the vast majority of Muslims that came to the U.K. a few generations ago. Came from villages and many were totally illiterate could not read or write.

And majority of the Muslims from India/ Pak that ended up in America are from middle class backgrounds. And there is a difference between the Muslims in America and U.K.

Sold their lands and plots to visit the U.K. Neither to study nor for business or work .

The plight of UK Muslims was presented to sub-continent Akabir, they compiled jamaaths and send them to UK for 4 months.

Well their money would have been better spent in, going to those places where there is no islamic work. In U.K. we have hundreds of masajids and maktabs. Madrasahs, we have many Huffaz and Ulemah born and raised in the U.K.

Work and taleem/halaqahs nowadays in every town with a Muslim community.

Sending Jamaats from India to the U.K. would be equivalent to sending Jamaats from U.K. to India.

I am almost 50 years old and I cannot remember a time where there were no masajid. No five daily prayers, and no Taraweeh or Eid salah.

The thing that took time was having bayaans in English and books being translated into English around about 1990 even that changed. And over the last 30 years even that changed and plenty of literature bayaans and Halaqahs all being conducted in English.

The Karguzari you posted about Muslims only going to masajid in Sunday’s and people not knowing when Ramadan or Eid was. Is most likely from 60 plus years ago.

And ALLAH knows best.

That plight of muslims invited jamaaths. And these jamaath sathees were not financially sound. They sold their properties to visit UK.

Bismillah.

U.K is the centre of Islam in the west. What exact plight were they concerned about???
There are places in Europe where there is a great need and plight of Muslims is bad. Such as Bulgaria. Romania and elsewhere.

I feel bad for these brothers imagine selling everything you own. And coming to the U.K. and finding entire areas in major cities with majority Muslim population. And masajids in virtually every corner. And halaqas and Dars Of Tafseer and Bukhari and Seerah taking place on every day of the week.

Yes plight of Muslims in the U.K. was really bad in 1950’s when the first Jamaat came to the U.K. led by Karnal Ameerudin in those days there were hardly any masajid and the Saathis slept in tents.

But nearly 70 years later landscape is very different.

UK was lucky that its plight reached Maulana Yusuf Sahib RA, and jamaath were sent to UK.

Unlucky Panama, Venenzula and other central American countries, their plight didn't reach akabir of sub-continent. And generations were lost and we hardly find Muslims in these countries.
