Bismillah.

A Bucket list is an American invention. And mentioned in Self Help books.

You make a list of things you want to experience before you kick the bucket. Often recommended to people who have reached an advance age or people who are terminally ill.

So they spend their last few months taking part in strange experiences and adventures. Supposedly to experience life to the full before they drop dead. Everything from bungee jumping, parachuting, deep sea diving, going holidays and safaris.

As muslims we live to a higher standard, and if we have been told by Doctors we have a few months to live then that is an opportunity to do as much good as possible. And be of service to others.

What I am looking for is suggestions of what things and acts of Sadaqah Jariya a person should do if they only have a short time left to live.

Any thoughts or ideas???

Bismillah.

The reason for this thread is exactly what you posted above. Problem is most of us will never have the resources to build a Masjid or a Water Well. And most of us are not good fundraisers or organisers so that we can initiate such projects and get other people to donate towards them.

Many of us have a fantasy if I have a greater means, or if I was a millionaire. I would do this I would do that. And if we per-chance even do become millionaires there is no guarantee our intentions will remain the same. One of the Mashaykh mentioned exactly such a scenario a guy became involved in business and became a millionaire so now he had the money his intention changed. Well first I want to re-invest my money increase my finanial wealth to 10 million then I will do good. So no having wealth is not a gurantee either.

And what if you have no money to spare?

Mufti Taqi Usmani mentions the Story of his older sister. She and her husband lived on meager means, and financial struggles... She at one time went to her father Mufti Muhammad Shafi Usmani, asked him to make dua that she is given tawfiq to perform hajj. He asked her if she really had a desire to perform Hajj, then why she had not saved money towards it. When she complained about her meager means and no spare income being left over in order to save money towards hajj. He asked her if she could save at least one Anna coin at a time ( that is 1 sixteenth of a rupee) that she said she could do. Mufti Shafi Usmani explained that whatever endeavour you want to do you should atleast take some steps in that direction alongside making dua. When his older sister passed away a pouch was found amongst her posessions with Hajj money written on it. Using this money Mufti Shafi performed Hajj on her behalf.

Listen to full story by Mufti Taqi Usmani in the link below.

So let me rephrase and clarify if you are told by Doctors that you have only 6 months to live. And your savings are no greater then £1000, and you really want to create a list of a hundred projects to contribute towards how would you go about it???.

And lets expand on that
say you have no money to spare at all then what would you write on a list of a hundred things???. Of Sadaqah Jarriyah.

La Hawla Wala Quwwata Illah Billah.

Start teaching Qur'an/qaida to kids or even elders

Teach people skills which they can use to earn money

Counsel people who are going through difficulties or suffering from depression. Give them sincere advices and help them grow as better Muslims

Distribute Islamic books, mushaf, tasbeeh, prayer mat and similar things for the benefit of people

Personally, I would want to spend money in the path of Allah, but if I am about to die but fit enough to actually go out in the path of Allah, be it for verbal dawah or for Jihad or even Umrah or Hajj, I'd like to do that. Death in the path of Allah would be on my bucket list.

If not physically able, and only able to spend money, I'd like to contribute money towards someone going out in one of the above causes. No matter how small the amount of money it is that I can contribute.

Correct ones intention for every deed done in the past, present and for the future. Make an intention to donate towards building a Masjid or placing a Quran in a Masjid as waqf.

Donate towards a Masjid, from as little as possible to as much as possible

Arrange with someone to sell/donate all your possessions for a religious cause. Many people have old items that seem worthless, but to others, it has larger value. Even if the item is not something for Muslims, sell it off and get the money put in to charity.

Teach whatever you can to whomever you can from the Deen and ask them to teach others too. Preach to whomever you can.

Seek forgiveness from those you know. Family, friends, neighbours. Seek forgiveness for them too.

Forgive everyone for whatever harm they may have caused you or spoken ill about you. Clear the heart out.

Increase the adhkar, salah, tilawah and whatever you can.

Keep smiling knowing that this is what Allah has planned and He is the best of planners.

I heard about this Muslim footballer when people were comparing him with the other rich sportsmen who spend millions on hundreds of cars and villas whilst this Muslim helps his people. Alhumdulillah.

Thats a good idea if a person cant build whole masjid they contribute a small amount to the building of a masjid.

Instead of a person just having a fantasy but no resources of building 40 masajid in 40 different countries.
They could still take small steps in that direction as a statement of intent and contribute a small amount say £10 each towards the building of 40 masajid in 40 different countries.

I suppose if a person does not have the resources to fully sponsor a medical student. They could sponsor and contribute towards the library at the medical school. In purchasing text books. For every medical student benefits and applies the knowledge from those books in their career the sponsor will be rewarded Insha-Allah.

I was once in a parents evening meeting / jalsa with a very popular Mufti.

The Mufti talked about the importance of knowledge etc.

He said he had plans to open a small library in the mosque for students to use and read books from.

He said if 10 parents were to donate £100 each to get the library setup and get the books in. They would have acquired £1000, which all that was needed.

After the program, one parent went up to the Mufti and said they were willing to donate £1000 to get this library going ASAP.

A cheque was written out and kept by this parent filled out with the name and reason. However, that library never opened and the Mufti since moved on.

The parent was so looking forward to being rewarded for ever! But the intention was there and I'm pretty sure that the parent will be rewarded forever until that library is made even if they are no longer able to finance the project.

It was a sincere intention and Actions are judged by intentions, so each man will have what he intended.

Good point!

If they don't have heirs, make arrangements. If they do, speak to them and make alternative arrangements, then they still have that additional chance of getting rewarded after death.
