Afghanistan some how declared the new moon and are celebrating Eid on Sunday!

Either they saw the waning crescent, Mercury or the planetary lineup that was happening around the same time, as well as the first solar eclipse of 2022.

They may declare an error in a couple days, they may not. Will just have to wait and see.

Salaam.

I hope everyone is doing well in iman and health.

This news came as a bit of a shock to me. I've seen the moon in Afghanistan in the past. Its very easy to sight the moon there up in the mountains where the skies are clear and where there is no artificial light pollution. Not only that, but almost everyone looks for the moon, so I can't understand how everyone made a mistake.

Salaam.

Some people in UK are opposed to following Saudi. Some people in UK are opposed to NOT following Saudi. Unless I'm missing something, the best compromise is to reject both and go by UK sighting. This way Muslim's of all denominations can come together to sight the moon in the UK and we can all have a unified Eid in the UK.

They made that announcement on Friday!

The rest of us understand that it is Sunnah to sight the moon after sunset on the 29th and then declare the sighting as positive or negative. And either end the month or continue it for another day and complete 30 days.

If someone was to argue that they won't follow Morocco, fine, but why and how could they declare a few days earlier?

I see no difference in such an approach where they fix a date according to calculations like how Saudi do.

It's wise to use calculations as a guide but conclude the matter as per the Sunnah!

Looks like it's just another fitnah to add to the list

Was the moon sighted in the UK? If not then how can you say you are following local sighting?
