As Salamu alaykum

I plan to use a car for 2 months in the summer and 5 weeks from November. I would like to insure only during this time, can anyone advice on the best options out there?

I've heard monthly car insurance is only interest based. Does that mean I can only purchase insurance for the whole year?

Any advice would be appreciated

Have you asked the ulama about rental, if permitted that might be a better option and would include everything in the policy.

Annual insurance may not be that expensive in comparison to short term policies.

I remember being quoted just under £100 for a weekend, whereas the annual cost was about £300.

Mashaallah tabarakallah £300 is a great price.

Unfortunately I've only been driving a few years and my annual insurance is quite high. I'm working abroad so can't accumulate no claims either.

I did want to rent but prices are really high

At the time (many years ago) it wasn't a Porsche and even now at this cost, it's still nowhere near a luxury car. You need to get from A to B and all working cars will do that :)

Alhumdulillah. You are being saved from sin in this aspect. So look on the bright side :)

For clarity, speak to the Ulama who can advise you on insurance/no claims/riba and so on.

On a side note, if you give the correct definition of your job title or pick one that is closest to your role, your premium can go up or down. Experiment with the different options and see what happens. (This applies to UK drivers, I don't know about abroad)

Also, if you have a car in the UK and you are insured or have breakdown cover etc (again speak to the Ulama about breakdown cover) see if they cover you to drive abroad. Some allow coverage as third party, possibly limited to Europe, but worth checking

Always haggle with them too. I saw one person's quote for the renewal and instead of renweing it, I told them to say that they will or have shopped around for a better price and eventually halved the cost with the same insurer. (Of course, this was an ongoing policy and not a new quote as such)
