This is an interview with Noam Chomsky on the Taliban. He explains how the US dismissed all offers of dialogue by the Taliban in 2001 and invaded only to show-off its military might, and how that backfired spectacularly 20 years later when they were forced to retreat in shame.
He pins the blame on all the misadventures of the Western World on institutional failures and cites examples such as the Tet offensive when governments were blissfully unaware of ground realities and that led them to make terrible decisions.
He talks about how sanctions always hurt the poor and vulnerable, and end up having exactly the opposite effect to the stated objective.

... oops, sorry forgot. There can be no good news in #Afghanistan on #Afghan women; I mean they 👇👇👇👇 must be #Taliban plants. According to all western media Afghan women are masked & stay at home.
A women's only shopping centre in Mazar-e-Sharif was reopened recently. The mayor has lowered the rent for the stalls from $400 dollars to 400 Afghanis ($5USD). The market has also been renamed as Khadijat al Kubra, an icon of female entrepreneurship.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
