Quote:
At this moment, Shaykh Mahmūd Āfandī Al-Khālidī Al-Mujaddidī Hafizahullāh is the leading Naqshbandī sage in the world after Khwajah Khān Muhammad. Allāh Taala accepted this luminary of the Naqshbandiyyah in Turkey for the revival of Dīn, i.e., this country was on the lofty pedestal of Khilāfat and was then pushed down into secularism. He was the Khalīfah of the famous Turkish sage, Hadrat 'Alī Haydar Akhsakhū'ī, who was a senior Khalīfah of Hadrat 'Alī Ridā Al-Bazzār. This chain goes further up and meets Hadrat Maulānā Khālid Naqshbandī, who came from Shām to the subcontinent and stayed in the company of Shāh Ghulām 'Alī (1186 – 1240 AH), the Khalīfah of Shaykh ul Mashāyikh Hadrat Mirza Mazhar Jānā. After he got Ijāzat (permission to spread the teachings of his Shaykh) and Khilāfat, he started to spread the teachings of this chain of Tasawwuf.

His Shaykh is from the eastern side of Turkey, from an area in the region of Georgia and Shām. With the counsel of his Shaykh, he left the bordering region and went to the capital city, Istanbul. There is an area in Istanbul called Fātih, attributed to Sultān Muhammad Fātih. An area of Fātih is Ismā'īl Āghā, counted among the elite areas. The Masjid of Shaykh ul Islām Ismā'īl Āghā Āfandī is located here. He was the Shaykh ul Islām in the time of the 'Uthmānī Khilāfat.

The Khulafā' of Shaykh Mahmūd say that he led the Salāh in this Masjid for thirty years. For the first eighteen years, no one would come to the Masjid. Shaykh Mahmūd would go door to door and tell the people of the locality that he is always in the Masjid. If someone went to work, he would tell him, "Remember me." His attendant remained with him through every difficulty. After eighteen years, making the Dhikr of Allāh, the ice melted, the rigidity gave in, the focus and Du'ā' of the Shaykh started showing and Salāh with Jamā'ah in the Masjid began. The condition in that locality today is such that there is no household without Salāh and no person that does not have the Sunnah appearance of the beard and turban. The women have all adopted the full Shar'ī Hijāb.

Some of the contemporaries of Shaykh Mahmūd are referred to as Mujaddid. The reason for this is that they filled the Masājid and Khānqahs in a number of localities. Masājid in which Adhān was abandoned, today, these Masājid are full even before Jumu’ah Adhān. After Salāh, these Masājid resound with Dhikr. However, the work of Shaykh Mahmūd is even more than this. Description of it is a means of very interesting reading, Inshā Allāh.

Quote:
Wednesday the 22nd June 2022/ 21st Zul Qa’dah 1443, marked the sad demise of Sheikh Mahmud Effendi (Rahimahullah), one of the most well-renowned scholars of Turkey. Sheikh Effendi dedicated his life to the re-establishment of Islam in Turkey and he was the means that Allah Ta’ala used for bringing millions of the Turkish population back on the path of Deen.

Sheikh Effendi became a hafiz at the tender age of six. He began studying Arabic and Persian at first, and then went on to study the Islamic Sciences and graduated at the young age of sixteen. Sheikh Effendi was appointed Imam of the Ismail Agha mosque in Istanbul in 1954, where he remained until he retired in 1996.

Upon the demise of his spiritual mentor, Shaikh Ali Haydar Effendi, he took upon himself the task of spiritual guiding and advising his community to live their life in the obedience of Allah and upon the beloved teachings of Nabi (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam).

In addition to travelling to every region in Turkey, Sheikh Effendi also travelled to the Middle East, Central Asia, India and Europe in an attempt to call people to the beautiful religion of Islam and the truth. Whenever possible, he would visit Makkah and Madinah every year to perform Hajj, and once a year to perform Umrah.

In April 2011, he performed a spectacular Umrah, together with over 50,000 of his followers – something like this had not been witnessed for centuries.

Sheikh Effendi’s outstanding knowledge of the Sunnah, his profound knowledge of the sciences of the Shariah and his Islamic demeanour as a whole made great impressions on both the scholars and the laymen of the Islamic world whom he met during his journeys and on their visits to him.

The most notable work of Sheikh Effendi is the work of translating Qur’an to into the Turkish language, named Qur’an Majeed. Another voluminous work by Sheikh Effendi is the Tafseer of the Qur’an in Turkish named Rouhul Furqaan.

May Allah Ta’ala accept Sheikh Effendi’s efforts in the service of Islam and grant that his legacy of knowledge remains in perpetuity as a continuous reward for him. May Allah Ta’ala grant him the highest of stages in Jannatul Firdaus and admit him in the company of His chosen servants, Ameen.

Inna Lillahe Wa Inna Alayhi Rajioun.

His Janazah Salah was reportedly performed by between 2 to 5 million people. One of the Laregest Janazahs in recent times in the world. It would be no exaggeration in saying that even those numbers were insufficient to express the debt of gratitude the Ummah owes to the Shaykh in reviving the Quran and Sunnah.

The Shaykh helped revive Islam in a nation were the Kemalists had virtually criminalised and marginalised the deen.
Were forces of Secularism and Atheism had took control and become dominant.

Even a few decades ago the Situation of Turkish Muslims seemed hopeless.

Against the odds.. an Islamic revival took place in Turkey. And Islam is thriving once more.

Had a chance to visit Turkey recently. The people love him. I got his Biography. After reading it, I fell in love with him as well SubhanAllah. He was staunch on the Sunnah. He was a Leader, Scholar, Teacher, Mujahid, and a Shaykh of Tareeqat.

One salient feature of Naqshbandi Buzurgs is silence. He mastered the art of silence.

What the "new generation" of Murids and others do can't be attributed to him.
For his words in the book are totally against their actions. They have pictures of him on the hard copy book, after reading the contents of the book it became clear that if it was in his knowledge he would have clearly forbid it.

Myself included, we are living in a time where a person will read the following: Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:
“When a faasiq is praised, the Arsh of Allah shudders.”
But still sit infront of beardless Qari and honor him. To reiterate the point that is trying to be made. The actions of the people around him are not conformity with what the Shaykh رحمة الله تعلى عليه would have done. Alot of the Turkish brothers don't know the difference between Sunnis and Barelwis etc.

I met a Talib e Ilm in the Fatih District and he asked about Minhaaj ul Quran run by TUQ. I explained to him their deviance.
