Liberal seculars are not pleased by the decision.

Professor Pervez Hoodbhoy's response:

"What Imran Khan is doing to Pakistani school textbooks even Zia-ul-Haq didn’t"

I went to a 6 Rupees a month Government School in Islamabad which was one of the best in Islamabad under President Ziaul-Haq (RA)

We were the first batch of children in the history of Pakistan forced to pray Salah and fast during Ramadhan by the "tyrant" military dictator President Ziaul-Haq (RA) in the School system.

May Allah Ta'ala have Mercy on him for inflicting untold "psychological damage" on our childhood (Ameen)

:P

If Imran Khan will go beyond President Ziaul-Haq (RA) then I fear for the mental health of Pakistani Children...

N-O-T :lol

I wish I had studied the Qur'an with translation in school. We only studied tajweed and recitation in madrasah without understanding.

It was compulsory in Pakistan under President Ziaul-Haq (RA) in all provinces except Sindh to study Arabic. Sindh taught Sindhi instead of Arabic but rest of Pakistan taught Arabic.

Then in college, NCC was around so boys girls had dislocated shoulders, injuries and burnt hands due to firing weapons because they were dumb enough not to take a rifle seriously. Everyone did it to get 20 extra marks...

Boys had a cap so when your friend fired the rifle you sat next and caught the ejected cartridge in the cap, girls tried to do in their scarf so they ended up with burnt hands :P Every boy and girl had to practise with this WWII rifle which Army had discarded years ago but they made us fire these ancient weapons...

Most boys and girls couldn't bolt it, ask Grandparents about NCC

It was good fun...Because we thought we were invincible because we were using "top of the range" weapons... :P

Hafiz of Qur'aan got 20 extra marks in Metric and FA/FSc to get into universities. Hafiz of Qur'aan got a promotion in rank from PMA (Kakul) when commissioned into Army, I remember because my older brother's best friend made Captain quickly because he was Hafiz of Qur'aan.

After year 8 I could actually speak Arabic with Arabs (in Islamabad) at 11/12 and get by but this was due to exceptional teachers and my father (who due to sensitive nature of his job had to do MA in Arabic and speak to Arabs). Me and dad spoke Arabic instead of Urdu many times because President Ziaul-Haq (RA) forced MA in Arabic on him so both were learning together...

Our principle (Sir Cheema) forced the School to seek permission (go to the Toilet, leave the class, come into the class) in Arabic because he was a "Deobandi" and thus a President Ziaul-Haq (RA) fanatic so we had to switch from "English" to "Arabic" and nobody was happy about it...Big long beard so he took the orders of President Ziaul-Haq (RA) very seriously and President Saheb was close to our School any ways.

Civil Service and Army officers had to know Arabic due to Afghan Jihad and President Ziaul-Haq (RA) made it compulsory on certain officers.

Islamabad was full of Mujahideen and Arab diplomats so Arabic was common to practise if someone wanted to...

Then when I was in Karachi, our Chemistry teacher was Jamaat-e-Islami and also a big fan of President Ziaul-Haq (RA) and he was a big time segregation advocator between boys and girls...Don't talk, don't joke, don't flirt etc...

In general, most children after 3 years had good and basic grounding of Arabic. Most adults who went to school President Ziaul-Haq (RA) today know some Arabic due to school years and can get by.

If I am not wrong, it continued in KPK for a long time even after President Ziaul-Haq (RA) but I might be mistaken.

Great mashaAllah. Then Hoodbhoy and his supporters should not complain that Imran Khan is worse than Gen. Zia-ul-Haq.

Btw huffaz are still given extra marks everywhere, even when taking admission in medical universities they are awarded extra marks.

Arabic was a subject in our school as well but they didn't teach us grammar; they only taught us literature :/ which didn't help us even 1% in understanding or speaking Arabic.

You know what, shows my "lesser intelligence" but sometimes I just do not understand your posts at all!
Not at all sure in what context I'm mentioned and whether this is to do with just Arabic or generally in everything. Anyway after some thought i think you're blaming the President Ziaul-Haq (RA) inspired education system generally for your "inflicting on people over 40 years later"

Reply if I reached the correct conclusion:
gives you opportunity to do lots mujaahadah to rectify the "inflicting on people" generally (or for Arabic) and reach high stages or get psychological help and undo the damage : )

Physics-Wala has a secular reputation to defend even if Imran Khan declares that there is no God, may God forbid such an eventuality.

I must be the one who should be making detail and comprehensive comments on what Professor Pervez Hoodbhuy is saying. Unfortunately I am in a state of lack of motivation. Ever since Mufti Taqi Usmani Sahab's article about a the need of a new curriculum for Pakistan I have been very unsorted out on this point. For Professor Hoodbhuy it is a God gifted opportunity to indulge in what he represents - the Islamophobic view about Islam. May be I shall add a few bits later to restore the perspective.

If he did spend this much effort on discussing and researching Physics, he could perhaps have won a Nobel by now. But no, it's the fault of the mullahs that he is a nobody in the global physics domain.
