Even if there were no apparent or immediate benefit in the world, the reward for reviving a Sunnah will always be there, waiting for us in the Hereafter.

When I quoted the WebMD site, it lists it as known to be helpful for 2 or 3 conditions.
There are many more ailments mentioned that lack "proof". That just means it hasn't been studied in depth by western medicine. It doesn't mean that it's not beneficial, just unstudied.

There is some scientific evidence to suggest that black seed might help boost the immune system, fight cancer, prevent pregnancy, reduce swelling, and lessen allergic reactions by acting as an antihistamine, but there isn't enough information in humans yet.

True, but the only reason I ask is that some people have mentioned oil, other soaking it in vinegar and some eatimg the seeds as is. Surely, the different methods effect the potency/efficacy of the seed.

FWIW, WebMD suggests powdered seed and oil. Varying by condition being treated. No idea how well a site like WebMD reflects the Muslim community's views of course.

I can't say If there's a cure then there is a way because there is a cure for every illness, so there is a way!

Some medicines have been shown and how to make use of it, others have not.

Perhaps there are multiple ways it can be used.

The Golden rules are to have Faith in Allah and know that all cures are from Allah alone!

Sometimes its not just a matter of having faith either. The body must have faith too. Meaning the faith must come from within yourself inwardly and outwardly from every organ. The area affected must also believe in the cure from Allah.

If the medication hasn't worked then it simply means that part of your body has lied in its faith in Allah's cure because Allah and His Rasul (saw) don't lie!

So if one has faith that the supplements will work on the basis of an authentic narration, then maybe there is no need for a prescribed method, have that faith and take it the way you find most befitting and suitable.

1400 years later, and all we know is trial and error. So how about some faith.

In short,
Consider it a placebo effect that actually is working.

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “My brother has diarrhea.” The Prophet said, “Give him honey to drink.” The man gave him honey to drink and he said, “I gave it to him but his diarrhea only got worse.” The Prophet said, “Allah told the truth and your brother’s stomach is mistaken.” He gave him more honey and get got better.

Salaam.

I can't comment on or interpret hadith. But remember some hadith are not general, but specific for the time, the place, the situation/problem, the person involved. So try to understand the hadith before using it and applying it to current and specific situations.

It is common knowledge that illnesses and pandemics occurred at the time of the Prophet (saw). I am not aware of anything in history that the Prophet (saw) suggested to break out JUST the honey and black seed at such times. Other precautions and means were also utilised.

This is my ASSUMPTION. I assume that utilising honey and black seed as a cure is not a short term procedure, but a long term lifetime procedure ALONG WITH OTHER HEALTH PRECAUTIONS. I don't think it's going to be as effective if a person takes honey and black seed everyday while the rest of his health and lifestyle is terrible. Imagine an overweight, junk food eating, smoking, sedentary lifestyle person takes honey and black seed everyday. How much is that going to help?

The problem with our community is that we look for ease and comfort and an easy way out. We will take honey and black seed regularly every morning and say we are emulating hadith, but we conveniently forget other quran and hadith that exhorts us to not just eat halal, but also tayyab (good) foods. We also ignore hadith that exhorts us to eat less, eat good, eat simple, and exercise.

Honey and black seed is just used as a gimmick to make us feel better that we are looking after our health. If we don't look after other aspects of our health then honey and black seed might not make a big difference.

W-Salam,

You don't need to be a Master of Hadeeth for this.

Common sense tells us that if we were to interpret "Honey & Black seed" as a cure all solution then there would have been no other treatment mentioned in the Qur'aan and Sunnah. All books of "Prophetic Medicine" would simply contain a verse of the Qur'aan and Hadeeth about the black seed.

The foundation of modern medicine is based on work of Muslims over centuries and all of it would have been absolutely unnecessary.

So there is cure in "Honey and Black Seed" but there have to be some interpretation.

Lastly, there is no concept of "Daily Vitamins" in Islam or Sunnah so there is no concept of daily intake of anything as a prophylactic treatment, this is a Bid'ah (new innovation) introduced by Brothers and Sisters who sell their products to increase demand and to make money.

The other day I came across a paste which had:

Honey
Black Seed
And few other things

Feed a teaspoon to your family daily for optimal Health

Someone is laughing all the way to the Bank! :P

You know how much people have saved for not falling into the trap, including myself? Loads ;)

So I would suggest those who are saving money (and those with spare change) should set up a standing order with their bank and give that saved money to reputable Islamic charities and mosques.

Perhaps set a standing order of £1 a week to a certain mosque or charity and have multiple standing orders setup and spread the donations out.

Masha Allah some excellent remarks

abu mohammad - yes, it is possible not every body part has that imaan and yaqin requisite for shifa.

xs11ax - I agree, we eat poison and expect honey and black seed will make us super-healthy. Maybe it just evens everything out and neutralizes the poison.

There is something also to be said about volume and quantity of food. The quantity of food and drink in the sunnah is small and so black seed/honey would have a higher concentration in that...but we eat much more and only have small amounts of black seed/honey so its effect is diluted and diminished significantly. If your body isn't busy filtering and cleaning away sugars and artificial chemicals, than it has more energy to use to make these healing foods do their work. Haven't you all noticed in Ramadhan how your stomach and body has healed itself because of less consumption?

Can carrots, vitamin C, black seed, honey, exercise provide cure for COVID-19?

The claim by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, last Monday that he fought the novel coronavirus (COVID-19 with carrots (Daucus carota), vitamin C and black seed (Nigella sativa) oil with honey while in isolation has generated positive comments across the country.

The governor had last week announced that he was tested positive for the disease and went into isolation. But on Monday, he announced that he had become negative after a series of tests. The governor said he only made efforts to boost his immunity and used his time in isolation to regularly exercise on the treadmill.

The science behind the claim.

Compounds from black seed inhibit COVID-19

A recent study published in the journal Chemrxiv has demonstrated how compounds from black seed inhibit COVID-19.

The study titled “Identification of Compounds from Nigella Sativa as New Potential Inhibitors of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19): Molecular Docking Study” was conducted by Salim Bouchentouf Noureddine Missoum.

The study noted: “The spread of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of specific treatment and the urgent situation requires use of all resources to remedy this scourge. In the present study, using molecular docking, we identify new probable inhibitors of COVID-19 by molecules from Nigella sativa L, which is highly reputed healing herb in North African societies and both Islamic and Christian traditions. The discovery of the Mpro protease structure in COVID-19 provides a great opportunity to identify potential drug candidates for treatment. Focusing on the main proteases in CoVs (3CLpro/Mpro) (PDB ID 6LU7 and 2GTB); docking of compounds from Nigella Sativa and drugs under clinical test was performed using Molecular Operating Environment software (MOE).

“Nigelledine docked into 6LU7 active site gives energy complex about -6.29734373 Kcal/mol which is close to the energy score given by chloroquine (-6.2930522 Kcal/mol) and better than energy score given by hydroxychloroquine (-5.57386112 Kcal/mol) and favipiravir (-4.23310471 kcal/mol). Docking into 2GTB active site showed that α- Hederin gives energy score about-6.50204802 kcal/mol which is better energy score given by chloroquine (-6.20844936 kcal/mol), hydroxychloroquine (-5.51465893 kcal/mol)) and favipiravir (-4.12183571kcal/mol). Nigellidine and α- Hederin appeared to have the best potential to act as COVID-19 treatment. Further, researches are necessary to testify medicinal use of identified and to encourage preventive use of Nigella Sativa against coronavirus infection.”

Black seed, honey mix cure for HIV

The Guardian had on July 28, 2016, published a study that herbal mixture made predominantly with the black seed (Nigella sativa) and honey could provide the much sought after cure for the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

A study by researchers from the University of Ibadan (UI)/University College Hospital (UCH), published in Journal of Herbal Medicine concluded: “This study concluded that the herbal remedy (α-Zam/Nigella sativa and honey) is effective in the treatment of HIV infection based on a significant improvement in both the clinical features and laboratory results of HIV infection. However, a longer follow-up is suggested to ensure that the observed improvement is sustained. In addition, a large population study is needed to confirm our observation in this cohort of people.”

The study is titled “Effectiveness of a herbal remedy in six HIV patients in Nigeria.” The team of researchers include Dr. Onifade Abdulfattah Adekunle, of the Immunology Unit, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan; Jewell AP from India, and Dr. Adedeji WA.

Commonly called black seed, Nigella sativa belongs to the plant family Ranunculaceae. It is a widely used medicinal plant throughout the world. It is very popular in various traditional systems of medicine like Unani and Tibb, Ayurveda and Siddha. Can vitamin C prevent and treat coronavirus?

In a mad dash to discover an effective treatment for the novel coronavirus, doctors and scientists are testing existing antivirals, antimalarials, monoclonal antibodies, and other medications against COVID-19. Now Chinese teams are adding vitamin C to the list of potential therapies.

ZhiYong Peng, MD of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University recently registered a phase 2 clinical trial on ClinicalTrials.gov to test the efficacy of vitamin C infusions for the treatment of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) associated with the novel coronavirus.

The study description notes that vitamin C is an antioxidant that may help prevent cytokine-induced damage to the lungs. Cytokines are small proteins released by cells, which trigger inflammation and respond to infections, according to MedicineNet author William C. Shiel Jr., MD, FACP, FACR. Severe lung inflammation with COVID-19 may result in respiratory distress and even death.

The clinical trial description states that vitamin C reduces the inflammatory response, and both prevents and shortens the duration of the common cold. The description further states that insufficient vitamin C is related to an increased risk and severity of influenza infections. The team aims to see if vitamin C has similar effects against viral pneumonia associated with COVID-19. Carrot slashes breast cancer risk by 60%

Also, researchers had shown that eating carrots regularly could slash a woman’s chances of developing certain types of breast cancer by up to 60 per cent.

According to results of a research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, women who ate foods packed with beta-carotene – like carrots and peppers – were between 40 and 60 per cent less likely to develop oestrogen receptor-negative breast cancers.

Other fruits and vegetables rich in a pigment called beta-carotene – such as spinach, red peppers and mangoes – have the same effect.

Beta-carotene is a naturally occurring chemical, which gives plant foods their bright colours. Regular physical activity boosts immunity against COVID-19

Engaging in regular physical activity is a great way to help manage stress and strengthen your immune system

In fact, research shows that “fit individuals” — defined as those who partake in regular physical activity — have a lower incidence of infection compared to inactive and sedentary individuals. What is more, being physically active may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases that could further weaken your immune system, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity.

How does exercise help? For one, physical activity helps to flush bacteria out of the lungs, decreasing your chances of getting a cold, flu or other illness. Exercise also reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, explained MaryAnn Browning, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Browningsfitness. Lower levels of stress hormones may protect against illness.

“Exercise also stimulates the production of endorphins — chemicals in the brain that are the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators,” Browning said.
