What is the commentary on this hadith according to the fuqaha (scholars of Islamic law)? When are we supposed to rectify an evil by the hand, when by the tongue, and when by the heart?

I quoted the Hadith in light of these questions

Quote:
Does the Muslim community ever benefit from condemning or ridiculing these people?
Does it in any way benefit our Deen to treat them poorly?
Is there anything wrong with accepting/recognizing them as fellow humans, however misguided they may be?

The Hadith shows there are limits to acceptance. We need to look at where we as individuals stand.

Anyways, since your question is for the jurists, I'll hold back

Interesting.
That seems totally contrary to acceptance of others that are different.
I'm not sure I'm reading that properly though.

Hate the sin, not the sinner.

A Muslim is supposed to consider every Believer to be better than him.

What about the punishment for the sinner such as a thief, rapist and a murderer. Should we just hate the crime he has committed and let him off?

The qazi (Islamic government) is responsible for punishment for rape and murder and theft.

Depends on what you mean by "acceptance". If you mean tolerance then Islam preaches tolerance, yes. But if you mean acceptance as in accepting someone's different lifestyle as also one of the ways of redemption on the Day of Judgement, then no.

I've been thinking about that wording myself.
It is really a matter of tolerance and not being judgmental.
To me, it seems far too many people go out of their way to be judgmental.
Of course it's an entirely different thing if someone asks you about an Islamic position/perspective on an issue.

I don't think its about accepting others.

For us, the key is to be the accepted!

That's what I was saying in the earlier post before the thread was split.

Absolutely right.

In my opinion, we need to become more tolerant (a more precise wording than when I was saying acceptance in my previous posts) and less judgmental of others. That will only benefit us and lead towards acceptance.

I think we are both thinking differently.

I'm not talking about being tolerant or accepting our others.

Our actions should speak louder than our words.

We live in places where fitnah is rife, there is no law and order. What we need to do is win the hearts of others, hence, we need to be accepted!

The prophet changed the world. He changed the most ignorant of people ever by his actions and guidance from Allah. He made himself "accepted"

He was honest, trustworthy and upright.

He didn't just get named as number 1 in the top 100 people to ever live. He got the number one place because he lived the Quran and changed humanity.

He was a Mercy for mankind and we need to follow his footsteps and be the accepted one's.

They are not Muslims!

They will answer to Allah.

We obey the creator not the creation.

No, they are not Muslims.
But if we can't even be tolerant of people who think and act differently, what makes you think we can ever truly be accepted?

Whenever intolerance is the "law of the land", it becomes the hated. Not the loved or accepted.

I truly believe we must be tolerant of these people, they are not Muslims that's true. However, as written in the Quran, we're expected to be more than tolerant of other religions.

As we were initially talking about the west, I'm not referring to a wholly Muslim state.

I understand that I've only recently become a Muslim, so if I am way off base here, please let me know.

Edit: You never really answered the question on how to treat these people. They will answer to Allah ta'ala for sure, as we all will.
