By Bipan Chandra

Yet another inaccurate book about Muslims that deperately needs answering.

Book - 46 : We, Our Nationhood Defined

Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar

Muslims of India should have read it 73 years ago and taken preventive and protective measures against the current Saffron onslaught in India.

Book - 47 : Bunch of Thoughts

Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar

Muslims of India should have read it long ago and taken preventive and protective measures against the current Saffron onslaught in India.

Book - 48 : Aasan Lughat-ul-Qur'an

Late Maulana Abdul Kareem Pareekh

I have tried to use it many times but without success. I am not very good in matters of language learning and hence I am a very bad judge of this book.

I must keep at least one book by him in this list. The reason is that for the first time I felt that we Muslims have a life, society and a world of our own was in a function on Seerah of Rasoolallah SAW in our university's central auditorium - Kennedy Hall. It was about twenty years or so ago and it was liberating.

The world, read the west, has tried its best to make us Muslims look like some sort of deficient or even delinquent people. Syed Amir Ali's books were another source of inspiration that helped me in getting over my complex.

Book - 49 : The Last Don

Mario Puzo

The book is plainly a crime glorifying narrative justifying Sicilian attitude and mindset - of course with enough re-conciliatory gestures to make it palatable to the US audience, a sort of culmination of his project that began with the Godfather.

My interest in this book and in fact the whole godfather paradigm created by Puzo is in the aspect that he is the only writer, including non-fiction sector and the psychology academia, who has the potential to deal with sociopaths and psychopaths.

But why mention it here? Because in above book he acknowledges debt to Muslims via Arabs for the astuteness of their society. That is a back handed complement but the case can be made for a positive link and connection and a connection that can be and should be exploited to benefit humanity.

Remember we were the first ones to hunt the historical psychopaths.

Book - 50 : The Road Less Traveled

M. Scott Peck

A help yourself psychology book that is hugely popular. The author acknowledged Sufi influences but I can not exactly pin point the Sufi connection but the concepts he attributes to Muslim mystics are believable.

In my view this book will be of critical value if some day we decide to regain our due eminent position in mind-sciences. If at all.

Book - 51 : Sir Syed, Azad Aur Hindustani Musalman

Professor Ariful Islam

He is my friend and has retired as a professor of statistics from our university.

If you ever wonder why Muslims of India have been so stupid as to not come out of the aftermath of partition then this is the book. Sadly the only one.

Duplicitous Lists

As stated earlier the inspiration for this thread came from the usual game that the secular liberal democratic crowds like Top Hundred Books you must read before you die.

I have been perusing such lists with longings. How lucky are these people to have their must list - I used to wonder.

In the process of preparing this list I came to realize that there is a great level of deceit in these lists.

Such lists are many times published by reputed publications. In such cases the list of necessity will be prepared by a team and most of the time the constituent members of the committee are not disclosed.

Any self respecting person preparing such a list all alone would not give it to the publication without credit.

Book - 54 : Clash of Civilizations

By Samuel P. Huntington

Islam is in focus as a civilization. Of course the attention is negative.

Book - 55 : Satyarth Prakash

By Swami Dayanand Saraswati

There is an intensely negative Chapter about Islam. It will not be too difficult to refute it. The refutation still must be done, not because of the great depths of the arguments - these are conspicuous by absence, if I might use a cliche. Refutation must be done to confound the followers of Arya Samaj, a force all over India busy hating Islam and Muslims.

Book - 56 : Kamayani

By Jai Shankar Prasad

This is an epic poem in Hindi and uses the Hindu mythology from Rigveda and Shatpath Brahman.

This is the epitome of literary achievement in Hindi.

The author and the book are both prime examples of a literary movement called Chhayawad, an amalgamation of romanticism and mysticism.

My interest in this book stems from the possibility that because of its pre-eminent place in Hindi literary canons we can utilize it for Dawah purpose using the intense spiritual symbolism that is heavily used in the book.

Book - 57 : Sanskriti Ke Char Adhyay

(Four Lessons in Culture) By Ramdhari Singh Dinkar

The First Lesson : Classic Hindu culture and its decay or rather decadence

The Second : The revolt against it - Jainism and Buddhism

Third : Advent of Islam in India

Fourth : The British Colonialism bulldozes Mughal empire and brings in Christian culture

Dinkar's attitude is accommodating about Islam and he takes it as a part of composite culture of India.

Of course there is an acute need to write a similar narrative with Islamic perspective.
