Is it acceptable to call a person a liar? I ask this as a general question.
I had a long conversation today, with a friend I choose not to name.
We discussed a particular post, that in the grand scheme of things really isn't relevant to my question.
I was told that it's okay to call someone a liar, if they're lying.
Who is it that gets to judge whether a person is lying?
I was told that you should question your accuser as to why they called you a liar.
Personally, I was raised to ignore people that call you a liar without justifying their action. I can see why some people may want to question the accuser though.
In fact, I was raised to not call a person a liar. Of course, I'm not perfect and I have done so in the past. Yet, I try to be a better human and not do it.
So, I really do wonder when is it beneficial (to anyone) to call a person a liar?
In regards to the actual post we discussed (I see no reason to link it).
Multiple times I was referred to as: liar, lying and telling lies.
Presumably, I could have responded to each separate allegation and refuted it.
But to what end?
The allegation would have remained (as far as I know) and the behavior would be (implicitly) condoned.
Unless an axiomatic truth, everything else is subjective, hence it is best to refrain from labelling others liars. They maybe convinced what they are saying is the truth based on thier sentiments, experiences, knowledge (or lack there of) etc. etc.
Alternatively, we cannot sit there silently and let lies and deceit propagate, hence it depends on the context, severity and consequences of the lie.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
