I have lived in the USA all my life. To many, the the way that many Americans think is a mystery.
If anyone has questions regarding what Americans think, I would be happy to answer any question that my Brothers and Sisters may have, to the best of my ability.
I do not pretend to know what everyone thinks, but I have come across many different people from areas all around this country. There are many things that people seem to have the same (or only slightly varying) opinions of. Of course there are some topics which people find much more divisive, as I would assume is the same in many areas of the world.
I will not be offended by any question. There is nothing inherently offensive in seeking knowledge.
I also will not make excuses for any replies I might give (unless I am in error). You may not like the answer, but I will answer truthfully and to the best of my ability. I certainly do not mean to give offense.
What is the appeal of the Republican party. To the people living in or around the Appalachian mountains, in Kentucky, West Virginia etc?.
I saw a documentary on Appalachia once. I was astonished at the level of poverty, these people of mostly scotch Irish heritage lived in. In recent years I believe that area has been hit by an opiate addiction crisis due to prescription pain killers.
One would assume that people of the area would vote and support Social Democratic policies. But they seem to be ardently pro-republican.
Personally, I am not sure what to believe. At the time it happened, I fully believed it was as portrayed.
Since then, I have heard many theories. Some "proofs", and I say some, I disbelieve. I have a hard time using a video that was made by someone unknown to me, to dispute a different video that was also made by someone unknown to me. These to me are not proof. Saying that, I believe there is sufficient evidence to have a reasonable doubt as to the true causes and perpetrators.
As for "most" Americans, I think they believe it was actually as portrayed at the time.
I don't believe that too many believe him to be any sort of savior.
However, this country (especially the politicians) are deeply divided between the Republicans and the Democrats. This can be especially shown in the recent "House" voting regarding the Impeachment of Pres. Trump. The vote, no matter the evidence, went (almost entirely) along party lines. This should not be possible among 435 people to reach a decision based on evidence to fall along political lines.
As for the people that live in those particular areas. You would also have to remember that much of their livelihood comes from the coal mining industry. The Democratic party does not favor that industry.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
