It's type II. It progressed over time until other medications no longer work and I need insulin to correct for carbohydrate intake.

BTW: How is your son doing?

Alhamdulillah he isn't doing too bad. Doctors will soon try him on a different biologic. Make dua it works. I'm also trying to obtain antibiotic therapy for him. It's difficult as he is under 18 and this therapy isn't an approved therapy. But inshallah i should be able to obtain it soon.

My son's Crohn's mainly affects him in the colon. So Alhamdulillah he doesn't get pain like other Crohn's sufferers. But he gets chronic diorreah which means he is very underweight and unhealthy, and can't leave the house as he always needs to be near a bathroom.

Fasting & Diabetes:

My mum has type 2 diabetes. A few years ago, she was advised by her doctor that she should not fast. So she used to fast at the shortest time of the year in winter. So she would fast from about 6am to 4pm.

I told her that she needed to eat dates even though it was filled with sugar, but I told her that she shouldn't eat them in even numbers, instead, eat them in odd numbers i.e. 1, 3, 5 (she would stick to 1 or 3) and there is a Sunnah reason for eating it in odd numbers. As I understand, eating it in odd numbers eliminates the side effects it can have.

Anyways, to cut a long story short. My mum has since started fasting during the prescribed times of Ramadhan and that too in the summer. Alhumdulillah, she is able to keep her fast from 2am to 9.30pm without her sugar levels being affected.

Also, MOST people only eat dates to break/open their fast (Iftar), but the Hadith teaches us that we should also eat dates when closing for fast (Suhoor) it is as beneficial.

So, fasting and dates can help with diabetes, but what I would suggest is that you try out optional fasts in short winter nights and then work your way up to longer fasts (intermittent) inshaAllah, you will be ready for the obligated fasts.

However, if it is life threatening, then scholars advise that you can postpone the fasts for the shorter days and if the situation comes that it is impossible to fast at all and life is in danger, then there is something called a fidya that can be paid (pay and feed the poor according to the rules set out)

Alhumdulillah, Allah has made the Deen very simple for us and He has not made it a burden upon us, in fact, He has done everything to help us, but we don't see it until science says so :(

So, I take it from your post that she is able to fast without water and suffers no ill effect?
From experience I already know that intermittent fasting (as far as food goes) is not an issue for me.

I guess my safest course of action would be to get a kidney function blood test performed and base my ability (or lack of) on fasting without water on that.
Then if *(medically) unable to (properly) fast, I'll give fidya.

*Edit: I'll probably skip food during obligatory fast just as a sign of faithfulness, regardless of whether it's considered a proper fast.

There are conditions on when fidya can be given, therefore, better to seek advise from the scholars or senior members here like Muadh, Dr76, ALIF etc

Why is your Doctor advising you that drinking water is more important?

If the doctor advises you that you cannot fast for so long then consult a Scholar and you will be exempt

Loading Qur'aan Verse

Once you have asked your Doctor, consult Mufti Amjad on Telegram and then you can make up your mind.

My Doctor flat out says I shouldn't do it. (As is a typical medical reaction to not following the recommended eating guidelines).

*Edit: I will contact the scholar. Thank you.

Regarding Diabetics and Fasting.
I definitely recommend that you:

A. Consult your Doctor
B. Read this article from the ADA (American Diabetes Association) to see your associated risks. (approx. 1/4 down in the article)
https://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/33/8/1895 (Table 1 or 2)
C. Consult with a Scholar.

(I found the above article after my post and before consulting with the Mufti)

Still don't know why your Doctor is fixated on water intake for your diabetes unless there is something in your case which is unusual. Surely, he should be more concerned about Hyperglycaemia, Hypoglycaemia and ketoacidosis

It's not my Doctor who is fixated on it.
It's me. :)
My Doctor basically said to stick to the recommended diet. (6-7 small meals a day)

*Edit* I have other health health issues as well as Diabetes, I needed to consider all of these and was comfortable going into all my health issues with the Mufti. :)

I recently came across a post (I can't remember where) that said a dog's saliva was impure.
I usually try to find more than one source, but searching on google can be frustrating.

Is this true?
If so, would you need to do Ghosul or something else to be clean again?

It is impure.

May I recommend islamqa.org (for me, I'd select the Hanafi school as most of us here are from the Hanafi school of Fiqh)

Don't go to Google - Our Destiny is worth more than just Googling :)

Direct link to your searched field islamqa.org/?s=dog+saliva

True, but sometimes when researching something it becomes necessary. Then you have to be very selective about the links it presents.
