Asalaam alekom

I read a Hadith that says (in my words)

You do Obligatory worship and you get close to Allah. Then Nafil worship...

If a person is doing haram acts he’s definitely going far from Allah. Opposite route. But if there is a person who not doing obligatory worship nor doing haram either, at which state he will be allocated in?

Walaikumus Salam

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said: Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him. It was related by al-Bukhari.

Leaving obligatory acts of worship is a major sin so he is definitely going away from Allah.

Oh JazakAllah khair sister.. and yes it was the same Hadith.

I read somewhere that a king gifts you a horse. You sit and go towards him. That is being Thankfulness.. but you sit and run away that you go far away and displease your king. OR you choose to tie the horse to some support and play around. Thats neglectfulness. I thought where would that person be then...
anyways i got answer to my question that was about leaving sins.

I have come across many people like this, in fact I know some near and dear people who have neglected Salah for a long time now.

I know there are many opinions that talk about being taken out of the fold of Islam and so on. But I know these people well enough to know that it is not done intentionally, rather laziness and in some cases, fear. A different type of fear.

I will give a few examples of what I have witnessed.

1: A person just simply never prays except for Eid salah and many of the Jummah salah's. This is in Muslim countries and non Muslim countries too.
2: A person doesn't pray because they have been let down by family, so much so that they lose trust in themselves and move away from Allah, yet at the same time, they refrain from other sins, even in private because they know it is sinful.
3: A wife doesn't pray because she finds her husband who is always praying cannot stand up for justice with his parents
4: A husband doesn't pray because he wants to keep his friends happy
5: A child doesn't pray because the parents don't pray
6: Many don't pray out of laziness
7: Many don't pray because they give importance to work/studies
8: Many have a big ego
9: Others rely on getting backbitten!!

How can we combat these issues wisely. What advice would you give, knowing that everyone of these are fully aware of the dangers of missing Salah.

How can we lure them back to Salah (Not a nice word, but you get the idea)?

Please share your advice and help those who can make use of your advise as well as a reminder to ourselves. if we can help others, the reward can be everlasting :)

I came across a brother once who didn't pray Salah and there was no excuse for him not to pray as Wudhu facilities etc were all there. The only reason he could not pray would be that he was in need of a Ghusl, but I know that this was not a reason ot to pray as he had performed other acts of worhip already in the day, openly.

So I asked him in private if he was excused from praying. When he asked me why I said "excused" I explained that we live a strange world now, maybe he's become a she :( and she can't pray at the moment. Yep, he didn't like it, but it worked.

Another brother who only prays Jummah and Eid Salah. One day I said to him that if he missed one Salah, he would be punished for a long duration (I forget the number of years, I think I said 70 years or 70,000 years based on a narration) and that this punishment will be last until the next Salah time comes in and then he will be punished again and so on. This got him worried for the day and he ended up praying, but just that day :(

We need to work on them with such tactics that can bring them closer to Allah. What tactics would you use for both, brothers and sisters, young and old, married or single, employed or unemployed?

One of the things I find strange is when our teachers don't practice what they preach or sin openly. I don't get it and I can't explain it.

The only thing I can think of is that they think they are:
Better than others
They have no fear
There is no Taqwa
Laziness
Muslim by name and not choice
Most of society are like this

I recall when in Hajj, one of the brothers said that when his wife wouldn't listen to him, he would keep his distance until she did what was right. He put Creator before creation. Maybe the wives should try that if their husband was in the wrong. But for many brother's the wife is in charge of all matters *facepalm*

One other way to get someone close to you to pray is that you can tell them that you, (yourself) won't pray until they do. But of course make sure to pray before time runs out. In most cases, everyone knows the importance of Salah and inshaAllah, they will pray on the occasion and hopefully they will remember for the next time.

Similar to "I won't eat if you won't eat" or "I'll eat when you eat" :(

Loading Qur'aan Verse

It comes down to this. The most important point is stated at the start of the verse. In the end, they'll be on their own.

One way is to tell them to help you by reminders, Jamaa'ah, or company to the prayer facility if it's a bit of a walk. I've taken friends into Masjid by just telling them to walk with me till I get there.

I have seen and come across well educated Muslims and laypersons alike who know that salah is Fardh, but purely out of laziness, they pray only when reminded.

These people can be very close to us. Some are parents, some are children, some are spouses and some are relatives/ friends who we love.

What other tactics can we use?

Another suggestion I would give would be to pretend to have a nightmare (if it is a spouse) and tell them what you saw and how terrible this dream was. Make it a repeat dream.

Although it might become obvious what you are doing, try and change the person and change the act. Freak out while they are sleeping and wake them up :)

Not sure about the fake dream.

I think only reminders and direct Ahaadeth like the first thing you'll be accountable for is Salaah and many other warnings.

Then it would be up to them. Remember there were prophets who couldn't guide their own children to believe in one Allah so we have to realise that Hidaayah (guidance to the right path) is not in our hands. What is in our hands is Tableegh (inviting to good and forbidding from evil).

Use the methods of the Prophet (saw) and the Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم. To give virtues along with the warnings.

Tactics can be used on children but not for adults I think.

Once I made a frame and put Hadith reminders in there that were so blatant that anyone would see it and they would know that this house will not tolerate any gossip. Come, enjoy and leave!

Similarly, I think if Hadith or even Notes with punishments, hypocrisy, intention, exposure, getting caught etc etc were stuck up and put forward daily, this could have a positive outcome too.

For example, if my parent/partner/friend/teacher neglected their Salah or distanced themselves from Allah, I would ask them what would happen if their children/students/teachers found out that they didn't pray or had other bad habits.

They would loose their dignity, respect, honour and so on. Of course it all comes down to intention. But if they can get their actions going this way, eventually it will become easier and then they can rectifiy their intention. Alternatively, get them to fix their intention from day one.

Explain to them that what they are doing openly or outwardly in front of others is just an act and that there is no reward for it. If they are doing it because they have no choice, they teach because it's where they make their money and gain respect, yet, at home they don't pray. Then constant reminders of "Actions are judged by intentions" should be drilled into them.

They might be preaching about Hypocrisy but ask them what they are and if they fit the bill too.

Depending on the realtionship one has with the other, take action accordingly. If you think a certain action will go against you, try another. Some people are stuck because it is their own children/parent/partner etc and it's not a s simple as letting go and moving away. Some times people are stuck with this. However, as mentioned in the Quran verse above, And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And if a heavily laden soul calls [another] to [carry some of] its load, nothing of it will be carried, even if he should be a close relative. So be content that your closeness to Allah will benefit you and their distance will not have an effect on you. Although we all want our closeones to have the best too.

But make them feel sorry and guilty. Shame them in a nice way. Feel embarrassed to be with them or part of them.

If you pay them, pay them a little less and tell them why.

If you cook for them, feed them a little and remind them why.

If you serve them, serve them a little less and remind them why.

If they have bad habits, pretend you want to join them. Let them understand it's wrong and that they don't want you to do it.

If it's a parent that is distancing themselves from Allah, remind them that they have rights as a parent and that as a child, they too have rights.

If it's a friend, distance yourslef from them if they don't change.

If it's a spouse, tell them there was a time you were happy that you would be together in Jannah and now you fear that won't be the case!

When we want something from Allah, no matter how big or how small. There are special Dua's for all times.
See here where it mentions Nuh (as) who couldn't make his wife and child submit to Allah.

In addition to the above, for sisters who are married.

If your husband neglects his Salah but prays if you remind him, give him a lesson of importance of who he is to you and what his position means to you in the eyes of Allah.

We all know Salah is Fard, but Nawafil is not. So if you don't pray nawafil Salah, start praying them. But before you start, ask for your husbands permission first. Tell him that you won't or can't pray unless he permits it for you. Make him understand the importance of his position and the poistion of Salah. Let him realise that when it comes to Fard, she doesn't ask him for permission due to it's importance, but when it comes to nawafil Salah (or even fasts) them you are giving him that importance and the reward of performing these additional deeds are possible with his permission. Let him feel big and at the same time, let him feel small for neglecting his Salah.

For brother's whose wives don't pray, try the same thing. When you offer your Fard Salah, ask your wife if she would be happy for him to pray an extra 2 raka'. Perhaps she will feel guilty that you are the one with authority, yet you are giving her importance too. It's not the same as asking for permission, remeber, this is for optional prayers.

If you have children or plan to have children, then tell each other, remind each other of the best gift a parent can give to their child is Akhlaq. Akhlaq can only come into your lives by following the Quran and Sunnah. Getting close to Allah. Make imporovements everywhere possible, else you will have neglecful children as children do not do as we say, they do as we do!

Ṣalāh, your family and wealth

Envisage yourself checking your bank account one morning only to find that your savings have mysteriously disappeared. Then, after returning home from work, you realise the absence of your family. You find a note on the coffee table which reads, ‘we have robbed you of all of your wealth and family’. One’s heart wrenches with pain at the mere thought of such a scenario. With that in mind, the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) said,

من فاتته صلاةُ العصرِ، فكأنما وُتِرَ أهلَه، ومالَه

“Whoever misses his ʿAsr prayer, it is as if his wealth and family had been taken away from him.”

Thus we ask, just how much has the one who misses his prayer actually lost? He has lost out on a matter that is far more precious than one’s wealth and family.
