Meaning of US-Taliban Talks

I had the pleasure of meeting the author in person last year. Now without presenting as a sycophant, I can confirm that not only is this book a precise account of his experiences in Afghanistan but also that of the man. Honest, dry and without doubt accurate of his own experiences.

Let the detractors not focus on the disdain they have for Mr Glenton but challenge the material within the book. This is where their argument falls down. Ad hominem attacks of Joe aside we should focus our attention on what the military does to its recruits and attempts to do to those veterans who speak out.

Horror, Morality and Ethics are all relative to those who experience it. You don't have to be a 21st century John Rambo or Travis Bickle to stand upon a soap box and speak out. That takes something more than bravery.

It's important for our thought process and beliefs to be challenged thus only reinforcing the legitimacy of this book. If this cultivates deliberation and discussion then it's achieved itit's goal.

Jingoism and the Queen to one sidez I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to understand what life in the military can be truly like.

Not much of a story really.The author deserted his unit rather than redeploying to Afghanistan for a second tour then made ludicrous claims that he was suffering from PTSD after driving a forklift truck at Khandahar airbase never going outside of the wire and zero experience of the actual ground war.After deserting his unit he was AWOL for 2 years and 6 days but claimed to be a conscientious objector after having to return to the UK after his tourist visa ran out while living in Australia.Joe Glenton is a complete fantasist and charlatan, barrack room lawyer and totally lacking in any of the qualities expected of a junior NCO in the British Army.He was disloyal and jacked on his mates.Just as well he served in the RLC in a support role because I wouldn't like to think he had my back in a firefighter.The man is a coward who has profiteered financially from peddling lies and untruths.
