My question is how would a layman be able to tell the difference between a magician or the friends of Allah?

I touched upon angels because that was the only logical and correct thing to accept. I'm no soofie goofie :) nor a Hazrat worshipper. In fact I'm not even bait to any scholars or associated with any groups etc. Nor am I an Alim etc. But one thing is for sure, such personalities do exist in the forms of Auliya but as per the question of the OP, this is not something we can dwelve into.

It is not for us to work out who is a Wali or who is a magician. However, a magician or an evil person will stand out more than the Wali of Allah due to their craving of fame and evil deeds.

A wali will be known after their demise (but not always) or they will be known amongst the pious of people.

Remember the Hadith about a man who entered the Masjid on 3 different occasions and the Prophet (saw) said that he was a jannati? What did he do to get that status? Simple, he kept his heart clean. He forgave everyone.

What we can do is promote the good and forbid the evil. If we see a fraudster, expose them in a good manner. If we find someone to be amazing, take from them that which is good but don't raise thier status to such an extent that the people start going astray.

For a layperson to identify a Wali, then Mufti Ebrahim Desai says: A Wali is that person who is punctual upon the teachings of Islam and he does this with Ikhlaas (sincerity) in his heart. His actions are in conformity to the Sunnah and he refrains from any action which will cause Allah’s displeasure.

In regards to Karamah, then the greatest Karamah is steadfastness in adhering to the path of righteousness. if you find someone like this, then you have witnessed a Karamah.

So most likely, we have seen a Karamah of some sort and did not recognize it.

Back to the sub topic of angels....and their guidance in the form of intuition :) but not a Karamah (nor black magic) - this was the only logical explanation I could find for my answers and incidents of what I have said (all of which are true)

Question
How many angels are there with each Muslim? What are their functions concerning him/her?
Answer

Praise be to Allah.
The honourable angels accompany the children of Adam from the day they are formed in their mothers’ wombs until the day when their souls are brought forth from their bodies at the time of death. They also accompany them in their graves and in the Hereafter.

- Their accompanying them in this world is as follows:

1 – They take care of him when he is created

It was reported from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah appoints an angel in the womb, who says, ‘O Lord, a nutfah (mixed drop of male and female sexual discharges)? O Lord, an ‘alaqah (a clot)? O Lord, a mudghah (lump of chewed flesh)?’ When Allah decrees that it is to be created, (the angel) says, ‘O Lord, male or female? Doomed or blessed? What is his provision? What is his lifespan?’ And that is written in his mother’s womb.” [al-Bukhaari, Muslim].

2 – They guard the son of Adam

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceals his speech or declares it openly, whether he be hid by night or goes forth freely by day.

For him (each person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the command of Allah.” [13:10-11]

The commentator on the Quran who had the best understanding of it, Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) explained that the mu’aqqibat [translated here as “angels in succession”] refers to the angels whom Allah has appointed to guard man from in front and from behind. When the decree of Allah comes – when He decrees that some accident or calamity etc. should befall him – the angels withdraw from him.

Mujahid said: There is no person who does not have an angel appointed to protect him when he is asleep and when he is awake, from the jinn, men and wild beasts. There is nothing that comes to him but the angels tell it to clear off, except for that which Allah grants permission for it to befall him.

A man said to ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): “A group from (the tribe of) Murad wanted to kill you.” ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “With every man there are two angels who protect him from everything that is not decreed; when the decree comes, they withdraw and do not stand between him and it. A man's decreed lifespan is his protection.”

The “angels in succession” mentioned in the ayah (verse) from Soorat al-R’ad are what is referred to in another ayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“He is the Irresistible (Supreme), over His slaves, and He sends guardians (angels guarding and writing all of one’s good and bad deeds) over you, until when death approaches one of you, Our messengers (angel of death and his assistants) take his soul, and they never neglect their duty.” [6:61]

The guardians whom Allah sends protect a person until the appointed time (of death) that has been decreed for him comes.

3 – The angels who write down hasanat (good deeds) and sayyiat (bad deeds)

Question
Is it true that children can see the angels?
Answer

Praise be to Allah.
Allah created man from dust, He created the jinn from fire and He created the angels from light. It is proven by the definitive texts that it is not possible for humans to see the jinn unless they appear in a different form, such as in the form of humans and animals. The angels cannot be seen in their original form by most people unless they appear in human form.

It is impossible for most people to see the angels in their original form, and that this was not granted to anyone of this ummah (Muslim nation) except the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

As for the angels appearing in human form, this is proven in the Quran and saheeh sunnah (authentic prophetic teachings). If an angel appears in human form, it is possible for everyone to see him and there is no difference between males and females, or old and young. But no one can be certain that a person he is seeing is an angel, because proof that they are angels is dependent on wahy (revelation) from Allah, and how can that happen after the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?

The angels appeared in human form and came to Ibrahim and Loot (peace be upon them), but they did not know who they really were until the angels told them, so it is more likely that other people cannot have any knowledge of that.

Among the evidence that the angels can appear in human form and that they can be seen in this form is the following:

1-

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And mention in the Book, the Quran, O Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) Maryam, when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east.

She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Ruh [angel Jibreel], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.

She said: ‘Verily, I seek refuge with the Most Gracious (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah.’

(The angel) said: ‘I am only a messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son.’” [19:16-19]

2-

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibreel along with another two] of Ibrahim?

When they came in to him and said: ‘Salam, (peace be upon you)!’ He answered: ‘Salam, (peace be upon you ),’ and said: ‘You are a people unknown to me.’

Then he turned to his household, and brought out a roasted calf [as the property of Ibrahim (Abraham) was mainly cows].

And placed it before them (saying): ‘Will you not eat?’

Then he conceived fear of them (when they ate not). They said: ‘Fear not.’ And they gave him glad tidings of a son having knowledge (about Allah and His religion of true Monotheism).” [51:24-28]

3-

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And when Our messengers came to Loot, he was grieved on account of them and felt himself straitened for them (lest the town people should approach them to commit sodomy with them). He said: ‘This is a distressful day.’” [11:77]

4-

It was narrated that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whilst we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) one day, a man came to us whose garment was exceedingly white and whose hair was exceedingly black, and there were no signs of travel on him, and none of us knew who he was. He came and sat before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), resting his knees against his and placing his hands on his thighs. He said: O Muhammad, tell me about Islam. … He [‘Umar] said: Then he went away. I stayed there for a while, then he (the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)) said to me: “O ‘Umar, do you know who that questioner was?” I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: “That was Jibreel, who came to you to teach you your religion.” [al-Bukhaari].

5-

The story of the trial of the leper, bald man and blind man among the Children of Israel, in which it says that Allah sent an angel in human form to test them. [al-Bukhaari and Muslim].

6.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that “A man visited a brother of his in another town, and Allah sent an angel to wait for him on the road. When he came to him, he said: Where are you headed? He said: I am headed to a brother of mine in this town. He said: Have you done him any favour for which you hope to be recompensed? He said: No, but I love him for the sake of Allah. He said: I am a messenger from Allah to you, to tell you that Allah loves you as you love him for His sake.” [Muslim]

And there is other saheeh (authentic) evidence from which it is clear that the angels can be seen, but only in the form in which Allah commands them to appear; and then everyone that Allah decrees should see them will see them.

The one who claims that he sees the angels in their original form is a liar or is delusional. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw Jibreel in his true form, filling the horizon with six hundred wings. Who can claim that he saw him at that time? Thus it is clear that there is no one among this ummah who can see the angels in their true form except the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). As for children, they are like other people – they cannot see them unless they appear in human form.

Allah would know best but I believe the father is the more practicing one. But who knows of their piety/intention at the time of conception, pregnancy etc etc. Afterall, Actions are judged by intentions, so each man (inc women) shall have what he (or she) intended.

It is not necessary that he should be aware of the 'mechanism' of his correct 'intuition'.It may be enough for him that he 'knows'...

It is interesting :)

It is even more interesting to note that our spiritual scientists had not only found it centuries ago but named it, learned to control it and use it for positive purposes. They called it Nasimma (نسمه),they even knew it's different colours in health and disease, during different stages of emotions and even showing different types of characters. They even determined its origin, elaborating that it was not what we call Rooh, rather it develops from blood and engulf the body from outside with about 6 inches thickness....and so on...

They defined it as روح حيوانى (Animal spirit), present in all living things (including humans) as well as in plants and upto some degree even in non-living things like stones (albeit very weakly). Some of them believed it is the same body we see travelling and doing various acts in our dreams, and that with practice one can control it sufficiently to use it while one is awake....

It is different from روح انسانى (human spirit) which is a divine gift. One Master wrote a very interesting comment about human spirit, saying :"It is basically a 'value given', like when your state bank gives a piece of paper a particular value through its orders (امر),say the value of it being Rs 5000, that piece of paper suddenly becomes valuable, but the moment the state bank cancels its value,it again becomes a paper worth a dustbin.Same is human body, when it is given a particular 'value' through an 'order' (امر)i.e induction of human spirit, it becomes valuable, the moment the order is withdrawn,it becomes the 'dust' which it is,and is buried or burned....."

Very true! After closely observing the methodology and teachings of TJ and also Aulia kiram to some extent and relating them to law of attraction, law of suggestion, power of repetition and thoughts become things, I have realized that unlike natural sciences, our akabireen are far advanced in psychology and spiritual sciences than all the kuffar of the world combined. In psychology the west and the east is like an infant in front of our Aulia. Pity, that very few are truly benefiting from them.

Again the thing comes to revival of khilafah and khudi (self respect).

This post may sound stupid but I am trying to make some very important points here.

Why people want to see karamaat of others? Isn't it enough that human is the best miracle of Allah and Allah has created this universe to serve him. You want to see miracles. Look at your self.

Neither Muslims at large nor non Muslims know their true worth. The moment you have firm faith that Allah can do everything and to make Him your ally, you have to follow His Messenger SAWS and act upon His message, both the worlds are yours.

Law of attraction, repetition and what not, in my opinion, is a devilish attempt to fool the masses into thinking that their dreams will come true by wishful thinking. It's shirk and ego worship at best. And so many are falling into their traps that it is a sad fact that they had rather reject the existence of a Creator with Eternal Knowledge and wisdom and accept the existence of a Universe that "Obeys" their commands and yet has no intelligence. How foolish is that?
