Agree. He brings pleasure to many people, especially strangers.

One day a cleaner was sweeping the path and moved some rubbish out of his way so he said, "I love that man!"

When I asked him why, he said because he'd moved the rubbish from his path. He put a smile on the cleaners face and he kept looking back repeating his words.

Kashaf is a fact.It is not as common as it sounds,it is extremely rare, but it does exist...

Unseen or ghaib is known ONLY to Allah and it is ONLY up to Allah to reveal a bit of it to someone like the prophets (peace be upon them),even for prophets it is not their personal quality or achievement...

Kashaf and knowledge of ghaib are two different things.Ghaib is known only to Allah swt while kashaf can happen even to non-Muslims.Today we can see and talk to someone thousands of miles away through Skype,a century ago it would be considered Karamat or magic depending on the person concerned. When Shaikh Abdul Aziz Dabbagh ra wrote that he could talk to many other awlia simultaneously in his mind, many may not have believed him, today ‘video conference’ on the net is a common phenomenon.

There are hidden faculties in mind that, when activated, can make such things possible and manifest.A Sufi can activate it and a yogi can also activate it,just like a kafir can play good cricket if he works hard for it and a Muslim too can play good cricket if he learns the art of cricket.Kashaf too is a skill and have no direct religious significance, the good use of it is good, the bad use of it is bad.It does not make one a better Sufi nor do they intend it. It is a side effect of their focus on dhikr and muraqiba,at best an ‘extra qualification’...

The definition of wali is :
الذين امنوا و كانوا يتقون , those who believe and fear Allah.

At what age can this happen?

Can it go away? I'm sure it can/will!

I'm just gob smacked about the knowledge of a mosque being in a particular street that doesn't even look like a mosque, nor could it be seen and it was the first time in their life that they went into this locality.

Like any other human quality it is GRANTED by Allah swt, and if Allah wills,it can be learned through practice.Allah swt can grant it to anybody at any age and even without any effort put into it. It is just like some people are borne intelligent or pretty etc.

I am not sure, but I believe nothing can be taken for granted in this temporary abode, many wise people get a stroke and loss memory, many rich people become poor, many powerful kings loss power and have to run for their life.Such people too may loss such amazing traits if Allah wills so...

Allah knows best

You are right...
It is a more advanced sixth sense, and yes,it does exist, denying it is denying a reality but it is extremely rare. Most of the people who claim it are likely to be fake..

So most likely all these people (in the present time) who "Claim" are most likely bogus, but those (in the past) were most probably genuine.

To find such people openly would make one assume (or even be certain) they are using Jinn, correct?

Kashf is like intuition. Your heart is inclined to certain realities, the details are fuzzy but the general gist can be ascertained. Sometimes the future is shown to you like a fast moving video with blurry details. Kashf is hardly ever exact and lacks details mostly, but can have details.

Kashf is different to guess work because guesswork is deduction based and uncertain. For example, if someone posts some words of Pushto in a post, I can deduce that perhaps this person is Pushtun. Kashf has more certainty attached to it and has no deduction or guesswork behind it or no foundations of guesswork. Kashf occurs without having any background information or expertise on a topic while deduction is based on experience and expertise. This can be developed and a person can get better at it with time while Kashf is beyond ones capability and you cannot get better or worse at Kashf. Guess work and deduction also lacks details but they can be filled in (by guessing) while with Kashf a person has no idea on how to fill the gaps because the information is often disparate and unrelated. Kashf can happen while asleep or in the state of being awake.

Guesswork (or Cold reading) is an art which can be developed. Non-Muslims and people away from the Deen use it to deceive people into thinking that they are having "Kashf". You can take courses in it and practise “Cold reading” and become very good at it to astound people but it is not Kashf. This has nothing to do with Jinn or Black magic etc.

WasWasa from Shaytaan and occurs to a person when he (or she) is away from Allah Ta’ala, absorbed in sins and it is darker in tone, topic, subject and mannerism. It is also not a pleasant experience.

Was he correct?

What is the opinion of our scholars

Because from what I have seen in this particular case, it is either his 6th sense or a gaurdian angel. I very much doubt a Jinn in this case :)

I find it difficult to understand or even comprehend such behaviour of knowing something unknown to all the passengers in the car. I was the only one with knowledge of this mosque because I used to live near that area.

This person can not read or write either, so there was no chance of seeing any possible signs etc etc not that there were any.

There is no such thing. There are only 3 things:

  1. Kashf: Nothing to do with 2 or 3. This is extra ordinary occurrence and nothing to do with language, experience, knowledge or history and it happens to everyone. The simplest example my teachers taught me was imagine you thought of someone you have not seen in 15 years or you had a dream about someone you went to school with 15 years ago THEN somehow you run into this person unexpectedly or you got an email or text from them. It is Allah Ta’ala who put the thought of this person in your heart and then you met this person. There is NO POSSIBLE explanation for this whatsoever!
  2. Cold Reading: Administrators on Muftisays have it and experience and intelligence enhances it. A new User has a certain Username and a certain picture and you all draw upon your experience and you “suspect” that this User is this way or that way inclined. A physician who has practised for 30 years knows by the way a patient walks into the office about the issue. A Mufti with 50 years’ experience can form ideas about a problem by the way the person behaves or formulates a question. A mechanic deduces a problem by a certain sound or certain symptom in the way the engine is idling etc.  A detective makes a deduction based on experience. The reason it differs amongst people is that people differ in intelligence so some people learn and analyse quickly and intuitively while others cannot. Problem solving is about intuition and drawing upon experiences. Thousands of us watch the news but there are very few like Dr Israr Ahmed (RA) who was able to perform analysis. A Non-Muslim can only do this and very effectively. You can learn this and also get better at it but some people are naturally better.
  3. Jinn: Evil and due to abdunance of sins and you can tell by the lifestyle of a person.

Many Muslims look at the world in black and white (i.e. Kashf or Jinn) but 2 is the most common reality and occurance. 2 is how Cons are planned and executed. The more Cons you pull, the better you get at it.

You can use 2 for good or evil but there is no Jinn or Shaytaan guiding you, its your (human) intelligence and experience.

That is 'Kashaf' :)

He could most probably 'sense' the 'Anwar' or 'barakah' of masjid in the area. There are senses even beyond the sixth sense, some associated with the occult faculties of mind, some purely 'spiritual' associated with 'Lataif' (subtle centres in Rooh) that act for Rooh like our senses (vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch) act for our physical body.May be the person concerned is gifted with illuminated lataif. It is not necessary that he should be aware of the 'mechanism' of his correct 'intuition'.It may be enough for him that he 'knows'...

These are strange things indeed, pure logic may not be enough to explain these phenomena.

That is correct. When it comes to "Lataif" it differs between people and certain people naturally have certain "Lataif" who are more receptive then others. This is the reason why some beginners may have better and more frequent Kashf then someone more advanced because their (specific) Lateefa is more receptive then others.

Also when a “Lateefa” is activated there is some human pleasure involved and those who wish to (be distracted) concentrate on that “Lateefa” rather than advancing in the closeness to Allah Ta’ala. Many deliberately are left behind in Tasawuff because they chase a certain feeling and a certain condition.

Each “Lateefa” has certain activation sequence, method and symptoms of activation.

It is the reason why Kashf is not an indication of piety. Then there are those who are overwhelmed and are no longer in control and they are in deep “Jazb” and become “Majzoob”. They cannot control or advance because it is beyond them.
