salaam

what does the term thiqah mean? a brother i know was saying to me the scholars at the time of imam abu hanifa رضي الله عنه was not thiqah and thus not reliable when it comes to him narrating ahadith. i assume its slanders by salafis but funny thing is he says he considers him as a master of hadith, fiqh, aqeedah etc but his argument was everyone has weakness and that was his.

If this guy accepts that he was a Faqih but was weak in Hadith or was untrustworty etc, he lost his case already.

Imam Bukhari and so on were Muhaddith but not Faqih. To be a Faqih, you have to be a Muhaddith.... So how can he be an accepted Faqih?

i did say that but he said field of hadith is different so he can be master of fiqh, aqaaid and even accepts he knew thousands of hadith but when narrating hadith you cant follow chains with his name in it

I'm asking because I had read in Seeratun Nouman by Allama Shibli Noumani RA that Imam Abu Hanifa RA never narrated hadith directly from any Sahabi. He had only seen one Sahabi and that was Hazrat Anas bin Malik RA. Even some historians(?) disagree that he was a taba'ee but the more correct opinion was that he actually saw Hazrat Anas RA. (Please note that I read this book years ago during my school days and am merely writing from memory, so I could be wrong)

The narrations by Imam Abu Haneefa (RA) have some weakness in them so the Salafees like to spin them to mean that he did not narrate from Sahaba (RA) but weakness is of different kind.

He is 100% Taba'ee.
