Wa alaykum salam warahmatullah,

Ameen wa thuma ameen to all the duaas above. I pray for this muslim ummah, indeed we are lost without the guidance of Allah سبحانه وتعالى .

I believe that T.V is one of the biggest weapons of shaytaan, really we should fight it off and get rid of it. T.V is something that has become so accepted in muslims homes that its sad to see how our whole lives revolves and around this little box, well I wouldnt say little anymore, you seem to be gettin all sorts nowadays.

I look up to muslim families who do not have a T.V. in their homes, I've noticed MAJOR difference in the way families spend their times in contrast to those families who have a T.V at home. There is so much time waste revolved around it and whats worse its all the things that are being watched is exactly what Allahs deen opposes. Subhan'Allah, A'udhubillah. Brothers and Sisters should spend time adhering to the sunnah, there is so much missing in our lives, why not use the time watching television to help build a better akhlaq and learning more.
Knowledge is just a drop in the ocean.

Some of the comments above are so well said.
I pray that Allah gives us the ability to use our time more efficiently and give us the understanding to get rid of shaytaans powerful tool, I speak to myself aswell.

Remember this sinner in your humble duaas.

Wassalam Warahmatullah.

Assalamu Alaikum,

Just took a look at the topic and thought I'd post my view.

T.V. is baseless, whether they have Islamic Channels or not. Yes, you may learn something good from there, but why not sit in the company of the Ulama in the masajid rather than sitting on ure sofa? Half of these islamic channeles potray the wrong message, you see men and women sitting on sofa's trying to make you think that what they are doing is right but no! It's all wrong.
The T.V. is a tool of Shaytaan... just coz there's something 'Islamic on it, doesn't mean it's right. Thuink about it, T.V. and showing the 'right stuff about Islam' do NOT go in the same sentence.

T.V. has such an affect that I've heard that there were two kids who acted just like the cramp twins. (For those who don't know, they are tow brothers and one is really, really mean.)
Read books, go to conferences, to the masjid, get to know the pious people so we may act like them and not like the people on t.v. who think they're doing right.

Trust me, once you stop, it's easy to stay away from it.

May Allah Ta'ala keep us guided on the right path and keep us away from the evils of shaytaan. Ameen.

Wassalam

Subhallah, Allah سبحانه وتعالى says in Surah Baqarah to the nearest effect:

"They ask you (Oh Muhummud (saw) ) about Khmar (wine) and Maysir (type of gambling). Say that in them there is a big evil AND a BENEFIT for mankind. (BUT!) the evil is GREATER than the benefit.."

Allahu Akbar, Allah سبحانه وتعالى tells us in the Quran that wine does have its benefits. This is a miracle as only recently we know from studies that some mediterrnean people consume red wine in moderation and this has good effect cardiovascular effects.

BUT!!!!! The sin of wine is greater than any incurred benefit and so Allah سبحانه وتعالى has made it HARAM.

I have heard from many Ulama that TV is just the same - yes there is ebenfit, no doubt - BUT the destruction and evil it spreads is MUCH GREATER.

May Allah سبحانه وتعالى illuminate the Haq for us Inshallah.

And Allah سبحانه وتعالى knows Best!

asslamu alaikum

well said aag!!
we should all make dua that the tv is rid from our homes.

its easy to avoid, but once you end up watching it for 5 minutes, u get hooked. u want to know whats gona happen next. just like episodes, u watch one episode, and u wana watch it again same time next week.
they are just fiction. we have our own busy lives, which can be more interesting!!

i personally do not want a tv in my place. i did not have 1 for a while. buit i knew that it was a matter of time that my husband would go out and get 1. and i have 1 now. its not on in the day, but when the kids go 2 sleep, he sits to watch it. what can i say? 2 different opnions, iam the weaker 1.

so, even though its on only minimal, i still would prefer if it were not present in my house, as i have heard that due to it, angels do not appear in a household which has a tv. is that true? coz i was told that from a young age.

i pray that Allah strenghthens my will power with regards to myself and my children. alhamdolillah, my children are not in the habbit of watching tv @ my place, though they end up watching it @ either grandparents house.

the thing is, who's ever house they go2, there is a tv. i wanted to instill in my childrens head that not to have a tv is the norm, & to have 1 is a mjor sin. even after marriage, whilst living with my parents, my eldest did not watch tv from pregnancy till he was 2 1/2yrs. now its ruined, as i said above, i have 1 in my own home!!

As alamu alaikum,

May Allah give your (queenie) husband the Tawfeeq to let go of the habit Inshallah.

But you know, when it comes to ourselves, then we can be harsh - but when it comes to others, we must be easy. This was the beautiful way of Nabi (saw) .

Getting someone to stop watching tv in one go is like getting someone who is addicted to a drug to quit immediately - it doesn't happen (very rarely if it does!).

Advice I was given was to do Ta'leem in the house - get a nice Islamic book of stories, Hadith etc e.g. Fadhil Amaal, Riyad us saliheen, Muntakab Ahadith etc and for just 5 minutes get all family togoether and read some things. Do this everyday without fail.

Inshallah a deeni environment in your house will grow and the family will automatically give up tv and other bad habits. Of course plenty of dua is also needed!

assalamu alaikum w.w

jazakallah hu khair 4 the advice. alhamdolillah, when it comes to the kids and tv, he is strict. i just wish it would be gone from my house.

yes, i do sit with the kids, tell them stories about past prophets, about sins and about how they should go about in islam with regards to what they want for their future, their appearence, their manners etc. however, a little time taken out for it everyday would be more beneficial rather than once in a while!!

remember me in your humble duas please. ANYMORE advice would be greatly appreciated. also any advice on how to get children more active and positive towards/in islam would also be appreciated.

jazakallah.

Salaamz queenie sis, maybe we should start a new thread on the issue u have raised, I'm sure it will be very beneficial to all. i.e. on how to make our homes more Islamic esp with regards to children. Personally, I don't find the time with my own children during the week, its either school or Madrassa, when they get back from madrassa its eat and bed. I do make sure they offer their salaats, learn their quraan, read the masnoon duas at the appropriate times etc.

I have a taleem once a week at my house, but thats while the kids are at school as it is easier for women with children to attend(and concentrate!!) but I think as aag advised we can all make 5 minutes somewhere during the day, inshallah.

assalmu alaikum w.w alhamdolillah, my kids also pray their masnoon duas on their appointed times. alhamdolillah, my eldest knows so many, when he starts his daily maktab, he will be ahead with surats, masnoon dua's, how to pray salaat etc.

but yeah, maybe someone could start a new thread with regards to the children. fun ways of teaching them. and u know what? in leicester, in school holidays, they have activities for children in the community cntr (i think its there), with all due thanks to moulana muhammad saleem dhorat. we need something like that where we live, assuming u live in east london!! perhaps a play cntr where kids have different activites laid out for them ranging in different ages. also having lectures, tuck shop, sports etc

not only would it raise money for the place it is held in, but mainly that it will keep children busy in an islamic, fun atmosphere where they can socialise with different kids of their own sex and age. they have these camps in america too.

oh well, maybe oneday, some day, someone could take this up. make dua.

Some good ideas queenie sis, instead of waiting for these things to happen why don't u get out there and make them happen! Get together with other members of the community and discuss the ideas, I'm sure some centre would be willing to give up their space during the holidays for u to utilise it.

I live up North, Alhamdulillah things are improving...slowly but surely! And yes, despite having young kids, I like to play an active role in making things happen, believe me its worth it!

assalamu alaikum w.w

astagfirullah!!! its utter disgrace. i heard there was a programme on tv (dont know what channel as i never watched it.) regarding muslim gays. apparently, they were exclaiming that in islam, its ok to be gay. that the quran does not say anything about lesbianism. that in Loot a.s's time, the punishment for his people was not because they were gay and ignorant towards the prohet Loot a.s, but simply beacuse the gay men raped other men. astagfirullah. their was a veiled woman on t.v claiming its ok. what a disgrace to us?? they even read from the Qur'an. (i dont know if they were trying to relate any verses with gay or lesbians).

u know what? these modern day muslims are surely going to ruin our religion. they are changing it to suit their needs!! its like the old testament and the new testament. astagfirullah. no one can dare challenge in changing the Qur'an to suit their dumb founded, illegitimate needs and desires.

whats this world coming to? i feel like crying. i have kids, i dont want them to grow up with wrong companies, but what if they happen to? LA HAULA WALA QUWATA!!

PLEASE MAKE DUA THAT ALL CHILDREN GROW UP WITH NOBEL INTENTIONS, INITIAL THOUGHTS & ACTIONS. THAT THEY ARE GOD FEARING AND FIRM FOLLOWERS OF OUR BELOVED PROPHET MUHAMMAD S.A.W AND THEY ARE THE COOLNESS OF OUR EYES. AMEEN THUMMA AMEEN

Ref: 'gay' Muslims on tv programme:

replying to queenie, yes indeed it is a very depressing state of affairs that people can actually put toegother the word gay and Muslims!

But, these sick indiviuals don't ruin Islam - never! By Allah سبحانه وتعالى they only ruin themselves! Allah سبحانه وتعالى has given His promise already:

"He is the One Who sent His messenger ( (saw) ) with the Guidance and the True Deen, so that it triumphs above all other deens. And sufficient is Allah ( سبحانه وتعالى ) as a Witness." Surah Muhummud

It is indeed a sign of the closeness of the Day of Judgement that such fitnah is brewing. In the name of 'modernisation' and 'equality for all' the fasiqeen are trying to do what they have already done to other religions - legalise what Allah سبحانه وتعالى has made haram!

May Allah سبحانه وتعالى keep us steadfast on Haq Inshallah.

may Allah (saw) grant us mercy on that day so we may be successful, for without His mercy, we are surely ruind.
