salaam

generally deobandis dont have much emphasis on teaching aqeedah, unless things have changed nowadays which i dont know of. in my days we went through talimul haq and then that was it. so we were easy targets for the salafis who went around asking people where is allah, and blasted us when we in our simplistic sense replied that allah is everywhere.

nowadays i have adopted the aqeedah as taught by imam tahawi as i have read and been told that his explanation of aqeedah is more or less universally accepted by all of the ahle sunnah. i also teach this to my family.

however, there are great numbers of muslims who firstly dont even know that there is a concept called aqeedah that needs to be learnt and adhered to. is this something that needs to be urgently addressed, or do our ulama believe that having a basic, simplistic understanding of aqeedah is enough, even if that understanding might be skewed or in error due to not being taught/learnt properly? i ask this because some muslims such as the salafis behave as if even a slight error in aqeedah, even due to ignorance or simplicity renders a muslim out of the fold of islam and destined to eternal hell fire. whereas generally our ulama and organisations such as tabligh jamaat/khanqah etc do not even approach the correcting of and teaching of aqeedah, but instead concentrate more on other aspects of deen such as the performance of wudhu/ghusl/salaat/sawm etc.

Wa-alayk-as-salaam:

If one is in an environment where one's aqeedah is not attacked by facetious arguments, then the aqaid in talimul islam should suffice. It is the responsibility of the ulama and imaams to safeguard the aqeedah of the masses when such fitna raises its head.

Not everyone is cut out for the intricacies of aqeedah related details.

However, Haji Shakeel Sahab (damat barakatuhu) has stressed on the importance of aqeedah numerous times in his majalis, and this is because of the numerous disturbances created by some from among the ghair muqallideen.

Also, Hazrat Maulana Ilyas Ghumman Sahab (damat barakatuhu) has done especially good work in the department of aqaid. He has said in numerous majalis that if the tablighi jamat ask for three days a month for the effort of dawat, give me three days a year and come to me to learn about aqaid, and dalail.

His malfooz:

"Fazail se imaan banta hai, dalail se imaan bachta hai."

Loose translation:

"Imaan is strengthened by learning the fazail, but imaan is safeguarded by learning the dalail."

Aqeedah has always been simple and the Deobandi/Barelwee split is due to Aqeedah because they are both Hanafees and Sufees.

The Salafees have highlighted controversial parts of Aqeedah and it is absolutely true that Deobandees don’t teach it but neither did anyone else in the history of Islam. There are less than a handful of books written on the issues which Salafees deem to be Aqeedah.

Muslims have never really taught Aqeedah but they have taught “Eemaan”. There is a difference of night and day between Aqeedah and “Eemaan”. Since Salafees overemphasise Aqeedah instead of “Eemaan” there is a disproportionate number of Salafees who burn out because Aqeedah is a dry discussion while Eemaan is active.

The Qur’aan and Sunnah don’t even discuss the term Aqeedah.

Deobandi Darul-ulooms don’t teach Aqeedah (in terms of) contrast to Salafees and here I agree with you. Most Ulama don't know it. We should have experts to counter the Salafi Aqeedah issues who can distill and explain to laymen in simple terms.

Laymen (and Ulama both) should work on “Eemaan” and work to strengthen it, instead of Aqeedah.

It’s no business of laymen if Mutashibihaat should be believed in without meaning and modality but interpreted upon the Dhahir but modality to be consigned to Allah Ta’ala.

We have a problem with apostasy and people moving away from Deen and it will be solved by working on strengthening Eemaan.

This is my Aqeedah

I would differ slightly. In my view aqeedah especially pertaining to Allahسبحانه وتعالى should be emphasized more by the ulema. (I am not a salafi).
There are many different reasons for it. The most important one being that muslims are being exposed to all kinds of books pertaining to atheism/evolution. Despite me having read and understood aqeedah, I had great difficulties refuting the ideas presented in those books. It is easier for some of us to say "This was written by a Kafir so what did you expect?" but that's not the point. The fact is there are a significant number of muslims who do read these kinds of books. Think about the death of stephen hawking and how many muslims wrote RIP and empathized with him. When they read these kind of books they are faced by all kinds of doubts and questions pertaining to islam. There Are a lot of atheist forums where ex-muslims write "I had this question/doubt and it wasn't answered by any scholar and therefore i realized that all religion is made up" This means when their questions remain unanswered, they start loosing their eman.
You might wonder why their questions remain unanswered. This is because most of them access youtube where Salafi scholars and their Dawah folks are prevalent. The Salafis not only fail to deal with this issue unlike some of our ulema (Mufti Yusuf Mullan) have done but it (salafi dawah) confirms their doubts.
May Allah guide us all.

Some topics were never touched until salafis came and made it controversial. Maulana Yusuf Baig from batley does talks on aqeedah in English, he's a student of Maulana Ilyas ghuman.

That is not Aqeedah per say but 100% agree with your views. The Salafees have introduced polemic discussions while refutation of heretic ideologies has always been a part of Islamic scholarship.

Agreed that more should be done to combat modern heretical thoughts.
