Qari Umer's Story
Assalamualaikum My beloved Brothers and Sisters.
In 1992 Qari Umer Bhula from Hackney in London, was born blind.
Alhamdulillah by the grace of the Almighty and the zeal of his parents, he was enrolled on a Hifdh ul Qur’aan course at the age of only 6 years old, and by age 13 in 2006 he had completed full memorisation of The Qur’aan. His parent’s passion for religious education didn’t stop there and in 2010 he was enrolled at Masjid An Noor which was the only institution in in South Africa which catered for blind students.
He undertook the Alimiyyah course and Upon completion was blessed with the opportunity of studying the Saba Qiraa’ah (Seven modes of Qur’aan recitation) and Alhamdulillah with the permission of Allah he completed this successfully in 2015.
As a blind person It was extremely challenging for him to study this field, moreso because he was not able to take notes on the differences of opinions ‘Ikhtilaafaat’ and thus was required to memorise these instead. Alhamdulillah, he persevered and with The Grace of The Almighty, he successfully gained an ‘Ijaazah’ (authorisation) from the world renowned Qari Ayoob Esack, who is based in South Africa.
It was always his ambition to become a Teacher of the Qur’aan and in January 2016, by The Grace of The Almighty, he was employed by Masjid e Quba Madrasah in Stamford Hill, London, as a Hifdh Class Teacher. He was the first ever blind Teacher to be employed within this capacity at the above institution.
Alhamdulillah, amongst his teaching commitments, he is also a guest Khateeb at Masjid Usman Olinda Rd, London and continuously finds time to participate in local community events which has lead to him becoming well acquainted with the local youth.
He has also been granted an important role within the National Huffadh Association UK, as a Senior Qari and advisor, as well as playing the lead role of updating the media content onto their various social media channels.
We pray that The Almighty accepts all his efforts and always keeps him sincere and increases him in this blessed line of work.
Being visually impaired means he is in constant need of creative solutions to support his independence and save him from having to rely on other’s around him.
One solution which will greatly support him in his roles and general life is the
OrCam MyEye 2, for the blind and partially sighted.
It is one of the most advanced wearable assistive technology device for the blind and partially-sighted, that reads text, recognises faces, identifies products and more.
This device will go a long way in supporting his independence as well as making him even more efficient and productive insha’Allah.
Firstly we pray to Allah to grant him what is best and we ask our Brothers and Sisters to help us purchase this product for him which costs £3250.
We cannot imagine the reward Allah will grant those who support him in increasing his efforts in this line of service and only the words of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W can do any justice:
“Sadaqa is due on every joint of a person, every day the sun rises. Administering of justice between two men is also a Sadaqa. And assisting a man to ride upon his beast, or helping him load his luggage upon it, is a Sadaqa; and a good word is a Sadaqa; and every step that you take towards prayer is a Sadaqa, and removing of harmful things from the pathway is a Sadaqa.”
[Muslim 1009]
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.”
[ Muslim 1893]
