In reference to the above topic:

Doesn't the answer imply that it is not permitted to shop during the Christmas sale etc as it is linked to a religious festival?

People don't shop for Christmas presents of specific Black Firday presents, they shop for personal items that would normally cost a lot more.

A sale is a sale - or have I got it all wrong :(

lol how is this even a question. sales and xmas are two seperate things. majority of UK identify as athiest yet they probably are biggest audience and consumers of these sales. xmas jus happens to fall end of the year and thats when stores offload their stock. seeing as the sales fall around the same time as festive season its taken the name xmas sales but if you speak to retailers its actually known as the jan sales. they start around 23rd dec so very few people actually buy xmas presents on these sales as its too late. talking about deals i took advantage of some right bargains today. who says jummah doesnt have barakat lol

I was trying not to be sarcastic because the original question itself is self explanatory. There was no need to ask it.

The point I was making is that people might take the wrong meaning the way the answer is presented, i.e. "since it's not religious....."

Regardless of any fatwa, a sale will be a sale, be it, Eid, Christmas, Diwali, and so on. No fatwa will be taken seriously and buyers will buy when they see a deal.

The buyers are not purchasing with the intention to celebrate. Having said that, unfortunately there are a minority of Muslim's who "do" buy Christmas gifts for friends and family.....and that is definitely not allowed.
