Message from Miqdaad Versi

*CALL TO ACTION*: Please stand up for Muslim communities across the UK this Ramadan and complain to the BBC:

Today the BBC Sunday Politics (twitter.com/daily_politics/status/868779901767237634) gave Douglas Murray the space to implicitly call for the removal of Islam from the UK as he falsely alleged:

1. Less Islam leads to less terrorism
2. Muslims do not report terrorism to the police
3. Islam is the problem not the solution

The subsequent video where there is discussion is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w3Dey2Crik
One commentator talked about how this is implicitly condoning ethnic cleansing of Muslims! Background: Douglas Murray called for "conditions for Muslims in Europe must be made harder across the board" and has often been called an apologist for torture.

Please consider complaining to the BBC for allowing him to spout his hatred:

www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/complain-online/
(Details: Television, Sunday Politics broadcast today)

Will take only a few minutes but is important if you think the above is not acceptable. *Please share*

Sara Khan of Inspire (prevent mouthpiece) said on the Sunday Politics show: "We need to counter this idea that Muslims need to be part of a global Islamist identity."

Now, ignore her perpetual tourette like use of the word "Islamist" which she seems to always use as an attempt to dress up and legitimise whatever nonsense that comes out of her mouth. What Sara Khan is talking about is that Muslims need to start rejecting the idea of an "Ummah". The Ummah is that global body of Muslim brothers and sisters. It is something that our beloved Prophet sallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam stressed upon us. The Ummah, something which transcends borders, tribes, the colour of your skin, your race and nationality. The reason why as Muslims we see it as an obligation to raise awareness and come to the assistance of our brothers and sisters around the world who are hit my calamity; both natural or man made such as wars.

Now this line doesn't belong to Sara. It's one handed to her to spread as an internal "Muslim voice" cascaded down from right-wing think tanks. It's objective is to disconnect Muslims from the plight of our brothers and sisters abroad. It is to have no empathy or sympathy with our brothers and sisters abroad who are living in lands were they are faced with daily socio-economic instability as well as state and group terrorism, often instigated or supported by our country. If i'm honest with you, it's actually an acknowledgement that foreign policy is a key factor in creating grievances which can unfortunately be manipulated in a minority when presented alongside a whole host of other factors to take twisted vengeance. It's an acknowledgement but rather than dealing with the issue, as per usual, emphasis is put on nullifying or reducing the effect it can have on Muslims. In this case, a total disconnect which means Muslims don't care at all - allowing for a cart blanch policy abroad.

The sad thing about all of this is that you can see it gaining some level of traction. Just yesterday, I was shown a facebook post pretty much iterating this, castigating domestic Muslim organisations and bodies that highlights this; that as long as Muslims were occupied with the ummah abroad, we wouldn't progress. Some sisters loved the post so much that they were planning on editing and publishing it into an article form for their women's website.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon.

On BBC Question Time Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, said they get intelligence from the prevent strategy, I thought the muslim community has always been told that it's not about intelligence gathering, spying and surveillance?

So who are the spies? Maybe the Prevent champions that work for the council whose name the council aren't willing to release?

Who is being spied on? Should Muslims be involved in working with Prevent? When the Quran clearly states "do not spy" (to the nearest meaning)

As mkdon101 pointed out, the BBC dont care if your muslim and they have institutionalised Islamaphobia within the BBC hatred of Muslims is something that is fully encouraged and endorsed within the organisation.

Maybe its time to have a International Boycott the BBC campaign, across the world, in all its formats from BBC Persia, BBC Urdu, BBC Turkish, BBC Arabic.

No muslim should co-operate or do any interviews or partcipate in any of their programmes. Until they make an firm commitment too cut out Islamaphobia and bigotry from their programming give the muslims the same rights and respect as other communities.

We have had these various complain to the BBC campaigns about one Islama-phobic programme or another, going back 25 years or so...Nothings changes.

Its perhaps its time its time to Stop complaining to the BBC and start Campaigning against the BBC.

Many thanks for getting in touch about BBC One's Sunday Politics as broadcast on 28th May.

We were naturally concerned to learn of your unhappiness in relation to the views of author Douglas Murray who was one of the programme's guests, so we've discussed viewer concerns personally and at length with the Programme Editor and other senior editorial personnel within BBC News.

To allow us to reply promptly, and to ensure we use our TV Licence fee resources as efficiently as possible, we’re sending this response to everyone. We’re sorry we can’t reply individually, but we hope this will address most of the points raised.

We would like first to set out the thinking behind inviting Mr Murray on to the programme, in that it is common practice on programmes such as Sunday Politics, Daily Politics and This Week to have so-called "authored films" in which campaigners and experts are given the opportunity to set out their views and then discuss them. Viewers are familiar with the format which is, in essence, the broadcast equivalent of a newspaper opinion piece. It allows us to broadcast a range of opinions on our programmes and also to challenge those views in the appropriate way.

The BBC's Live Political Programmes department has reported extensively on the issue of counter-extremism and counter-terrorism, featuring a range of contributors. For example, on 5th March this year Sunday Politics featured an in-depth report and studio discussion on the findings of a report from the Henry Jackson Society on whether the UK is doing enough to counter Islamist terrorism. The discussion featured the former security minister, Dame Pauline Neville-Jones, Adam Deen from the anti-extremist group The Quilliam Foundation, and Talha Ahmad from The Muslim Council of Britain. In April, in another example, the Conservative peer Baroness Warsi was a guest of the day on the Daily Politics programme, in which she expressed her doubts and concerns about the Home Office's ‘Prevent’ programme.

The question of how to respond to threats from Islamic extremists was one on many minds after the Manchester Arena attack. As well as inviting Douglas Murray on to the programme, we also invited Sara Khan, CEO of Inspire, a non-governmental organisation working to counter extremism and gender inequality. The fact that both guests were given time to outline their views in the films made it perfectly clear to viewers where they were coming from.

In his authored film, Mr Murray made the assertion that “Eastern Europe does not have a problem with Islamic terrorism because it does not have much Islam”. Obviously the fact that some Eastern European countries have proportionately large Muslim populations needs to be brought into context with bigger, more populous Eastern European countries such as Poland which have relatively small Muslim populations. This research from the Pew Research Center is helpful on this issue: www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/19/5-facts-about-th....

Mr Murray was subsequently challenged on the view he expressed in the film by our presenter, Jo Coburn, who asked him to explain what he meant by the statement. In addition, Sara Khan was also given the opportunity to express her opinion, and she made it quite clear that she disagreed with Mr Murray on that point.

In the studio discussion, Mr Murray said “Take a poll that was taken last year in this country: it found that two thirds of British Muslims said they would not report a family member they found to be involved in extremism to the police”. The poll to which Mr Murray was referring was carried out by ICM on behalf of Channel 4 and formed the basis of a documentary called ‘What British Muslims Really Think’, presented by Trevor Philips OBE which was broadcast on 13th April 2016. Mr Murray accurately reported the finding in the poll which shows (p323-5) that 34% of respondents would report a person close to them who they thought was getting involved with people “who support terrorism in Syria” - www.icmunlimited.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Mulims-fu... .

It is important that the BBC provides a platform for the widest possible discussion on important matters and that contributors are challenged in the appropriate way. We feel that the item was consistent with BBC Editorial Guidelines and upheld the BBC tradition of producing engaging, informative and challenging content.

Many thanks once again for taking the time to get in touch. We do hope our reply here helps to clarify matters and thus allays any concerns you may have had.

Yeah received the same response...! Mind you BBC give a similar response every-time. The ITN from my limited experience seem to be more accommodating about complaints from Muslims.

Same old same old.

Thanks for contacting us regarding BBC News.
We note your comments and that you view BBC News as having an agenda of promoting Islamophobia; however, we don’t accept the premise of your question.
In the absence of any specific examples from our recent output that you feel demonstrate bias and support your claims, there’s little we can say in response other than to reassure you that BBC News has no view or position itself on anything we may report upon.
The decisions on what to report each day are made by our news editors, taking into consideration the editorial merits of the stories at hand. And all BBC correspondents, reporters, presenters and editors are very well aware of our key commitment to impartial reporting at all times.
Thanks again for your feedback. Complaints are sent to senior management and news teams every morning and we’ve included your comments in our overnight reports. These reports are among the most widely read sources of feedback in the BBC. They ensure complaints are seen quickly by the right people.
Kind regards

The only way to make BBC listen is to threaten them with a lawsuit. Muslims have to all get together in a massive public campaign and then a Muslim organisation take them to court. Muslim continue to keep the issue in the public and keep it on the boil

BBC have a limited legal budget so they are usually advised to settle the issue. The cost for each (legal) representation is upwards of £20,000 (per case).

4-5 such cases (with compensation) will break BBC and make them take the Muslims seriously.

BBC normally operate within the legal boundaries, the programmes where they are blatantly biased or make libellous claims such as that of Shaykh Sulaiman Ghani are rare.

Generally the main style of bias as a BBC is lying through omission, that is deliberately leaving out certain facts in order to change the complexion of a story, prime example the so-called Trojan Horse School plot.

Or secondly deliberatley undercovering a story for example the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

BBC bias is a quite sophisticated and would fall under legal boundaries....!

A Social media campaign against Islamphobia within the BBC that goes viral might work...would need some committed indviduals with knowledge of how Social media works. Also need the Muslim public to come on board.

Maybe an e-petition about the BBC ending Islamaphobia and treating Muslims with same respect as everyone else?

The main problem would be is getting muslims to sign the petition. 30 to 40 thousand signatures would really pressure on them and make their management take notice.
