@RmSalih

I was in Libya in 2011 when Gaddafi was overthrown by disparate groups, some Islamic and some less so. Soon they all started fighting each other and look at Libya now.

Similar things happened in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I'm assuming Assad is toast but I do fear that a massive civil war could follow. This must be avoided come what

It is a possiblity that with 28 differing factions this could end up with even more fragmentation something more severe and chaotic. Each group vying with each other for power on the battlefield and calling it Jihad.

And ALLAH knows best

Syrian President Assad, via the UAE, offered to cut ties with Iran-backed groups like Hezbollah if the U.S. helps reduce regional conflicts. He also sent a Christian leader to Hungary to highlight threats to Syria's Christian minority if Islamist rebels take over. This targets Hungary's leader, Viktor Orbán, who is close to Trump, aiming to use their relationship to influence U.S. policy and gain support for Assad’s regime.

I am not saying that there was an alternative, or that a tyrant should not be removed from power.

Only that we have been through this scenario so many times previously with great hopes of change including in Syria a decade ago. Only to be left disappointed of what comes after, the initial euphoria of a potential revolution ended up with many being left despondent. So you cannot blame people for being cautious and worried of what may transpire in the coming months and years.

If we have a unified pious and wise and pragmatic leadership in Syria Alhamdulillah.

If we have disunity and internal strife and conflict then that will be a wasted opportunity and tragedy for both the Syrians and the Ummah

And ALLAH knows best.

Syria wasn't liberated because Russia got involved so not sure why you are saying it was infighting that led to a failure. ISIS was another factor.

This time it can go the taliban way if HTS and it's allies remain firm and crush any opposition like taliban has been doing since return to power. There's always the fear that foreign intelligence will resurrect ISIS or America will back SDF or MBZ will fund another group to cause uprising. Turkey won't tolerate SDF so that's the good thing the rebels will have in their favour. HTS will need to deal with ISIS themselves just like Taliban has been doing with ISKP. The only fear I have is MBZ, he may either warm up like he has with Taliban or fund an anti-HTS front.

Syrian rebels have taken control of Homs, the third-largest city in Syria. In just one week, President Assad's forces have lost control of eight provincial capitals, leaving only three still under his authority: Damascus, Latakia, and Tartus.

How could an ophthalmologist not see this coming?

p.s. Bashar al-Assad was trained as an ophthalmologist. He studied medicine at the University of Damascus and later specialised in ophthalmology in London.

If you read my above post carefully I never said it was infighting the first time round but that their is a chance of infighting this time , as for the past it was a lack of unified leadership and a movement fighting under one banner which resulted in failure and Isis was indeed a huge factor which led to people being repulsed and turning their backs on the Syrian struggle. The Russian support may have been an impediment but was not insurmountable.

The resistance against Soviets and the puppet Afghan regime of Najibullah was made of various factions after victory there was a failure of power sharing agreements amongst the s
Various Mujahadeen groups which eventually led to civil war.

The Taliban on the other hand was the main and united resistance against the Americans and their puppets.

Having said that they by their own admission made miscalculations during their first rule, many people in Afghanistan celebrated their downfall the first time round. Due to their strictness on many issues this time they are alot more wiser and realised that you cannot just impose strict rules if the population is not ready for it.

This post has been reported. It could be due to breaking rules or something as simple as bad use of bbcodes which breaks the page format. We will attend to this soon.
