Asma al-Assad, wife of deposed Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, has filed for divorce and expressed her desire to return to the United Kingdom, reports The Jerusalem Post quoting Turkish and Arab media sources. The report said that Asma al-Assad is dissatisfied with her life in Moscow, where the Assads have resided in exile. Asma has allegedly applied to a Russian court seeking special permission to leave the country, with her application currently under review by Russian authorities.

She risks being arrested for war crimes if she comes to the U.K.
The following is an extract from an article in the Guardian news paper back in 2021.

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/14/asma-al-assad-syria...

The British wife of Syria’s ruler, Bashar al-Assad, is facing possible terrorism charges and the loss of her British citizenship after the Metropolitan police opened a preliminary investigation into claims she has incited, aided and encouraged war crimes by Syrian government forces.

Asma al-Assad, 45, who was born and educated in London before becoming Syria’s first lady in 2000, is being investigated in response to legal complaints alleging her speeches and public appearances in support of the Syrian army implicate her in its crimes, including the use of chemical weapons.

Israeli military’s attack on the upper floor of al-Wafaa Hospital in Gaza City has killed at least seven people and wounded others, some critically, according to Gaza’s civil defence.

Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reports that a baby in central Gaza died this morning, marking the fifth infant to die from hypothermia in the Strip.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate is demanding an investigation into the killing of 21-year-old Palestinian journalism student Shatha Sabbagh in the occupied West Bank.

International aid groups call on Israel to immediately release Dr Hussam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who was arrested during Friday’s Israeli attack.

Ahmed al-Sharaa, the de facto leader of Syria, has stated that drafting a new constitution could take up to three years, and holding new elections could take up to four years from now.

Syria needs to be careful not to repeat the mistakes of Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, and Yemen after their dictators were removed. It should take its time and not rush into creating a new constitution or holding elections.

⿻ The Ministry of Education announces amendments to school curricula for the 2025 academic year, aiming to remove nationalist and secular elements and replace them with Islamic concepts.

⿻ Some examples of modifications in religious education programs:

❖ Replace “a person sacrifices their soul in defense of their homeland” with: “a person sacrifices their soul for the sake of Allah.”

❖ “Ali, may Allah honor his face” is replaced with: “Ali, may Allah be pleased with him.”

❖ Replace “governed by the law of justice” with “Allah’s Law.”

❖ “Commitment to Shari’ah and law (al-qanun)” → remove “law (al-qanun).”

Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has been named president for the "transitional period".

All rebel groups which opposed Assad in the 13-year civil war would be dissolved and integrated into state institutions.

The new Syrian president, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, just a few months ago, was unable to leave Idlib let alone Syria, while Assad's forces, other Shia militant groups, the atheist Kurdish militia, and ISIS were all searching for him. Meanwhile, countries like the United States had placed a $10 million bounty on his head. Today, he had the honor of entering the Kaaba— a moment that was once unimaginable.
