Muhammad Ali has died at the age of 74, a family spokesman has said.

The former world heavyweight boxing champion, one of the world's best-known sportsmen, died at a hospital in the US city of Phoenix, Arizona, after being admitted on Thursday.

He was suffering from a respiratory illness, a condition that was complicated by Parkinson's disease.

The funeral will take place in Ali's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, his family said in a statement.

How Ali wanted people to remember him

"I would like to be remembered as a man who won the heavyweight title three times, who was humorous and who treated everyone right. As a man who never looked down on those who looked up to him...who stood up for his beliefs...who tried to unite all humankind through faith and love.

"And if all that's too much, then I guess I'd settle for being remembered only as a great boxer who became a leader and a champion of his people. And I wouldn't even mind if folks forgot how pretty I was."

Inah Lillahe wa Inah Ilayhe rajioun.

I hope he IN SHA ALLAH gets a Proper Janaazah, his relatives have been exploiting his name for monetary gain in his old age and Sickness for years, would not surprise me if they used his funeral as a PR opportunity and some sort of perenilliast memorial.

Here is Muhammad Ali giving an Inspirational Islamic answer when Some one asked him what he would do when he retired.

Inna lilaahi wa inna ilaihi raajioon

Allah grant him firdous. Very sad day. Along with Malcolm X and Nelson Mandela he was one of the most inspirational men of past 100 years and a hero. Wish we muslims had leaders/scholars/politcians like him who speak the truth with no fear and do not try watering down islam to please the kuffar.

He spent 3 days in Jamaat with our Masjid in 1992. His intellect was in decline and there are some stuff which I don't wish to disclose.

I can assure you that the he was 100% Sunni until he lost his body and mind due to Parkisonism and that is excusable in Shariah

I investigated this when it was mentioned on the Net ,You also have a video of him doing Zikr with Haqqanis and the haqqannis claiming he belonged to their group, from what i can tell that so-called Bayat was a supposed healing Ceremony, Some of his members claiming he became a perennialist Sufi..The perenilliasts of Inayat Khan do not offer salah..as you can tell from the article he was still offering salah whilst seated. And still trying to convert People to islam.

Most of his kids are from former marriages, raised by his ex-wifes without Islam, they seem to have very little knowledge of it, and all of them have been living of his name and trying to present him as a perennialist for commercial reasons given that their is still discontent in America concerning his stance against the Vietnam war, and his membership of The Nation Of Islam ...As far as I know both he and his Brother Rahman Ali who also had a short lived boxing career are Sunni-Muslim...!

And ALLAH Knows best.

well in all his interviews and even recent one he always mention praying salah, also alot of people and groups im guessing would try attributing him to themselfs, maybe he went to one gathering and that suddenly means he is one of them. most muslims are guilty of either living of the legacy of great personalities and trying to claim famous personalities belong to same group as them

A few years ago Colonel Ameerudin رحمة الله عليه passed away, he had spent decades in Tabligh jamaat an article and photograph was posted claiming that Colonel Ameerudin had become a member of Haqqani sufis, the picture showed wearing a robe of the Haqqanis along with their style of pointed turban...! this seemed all rather strange and caused a bit of confusion all the people who knew the colonel for decades claimed this was untrue. Well in anycase a year or so later I came across the article again on a website and apparently the guy who wrote the article is a Grandson of the Colonel and the photograph was taken at a healing Centre the Grandson runs in Canada the Colonel was just paying him a visit and no doubt the Haqqani style of clothes were gifted to the Colonel by him to wear, and he was photographed in them.

So we shouldnt just make assumptions on what people claim often they have their own agendas.

Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihe raaji'oon.

May Allah JJ grant him Jannat ul firdous.

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ
Every soul shall taste death.

May Allah give me and all of us taufeeq to prepare for this undeniable truth.

Today, here in Pakistan, people (media and others) celebrating (and enjoying) his death. SubhanAllah. May Allah JJ guide us all. There was time when media atleast behaved a bit sad, by playing some sad music etc. with anchors speaking in a bit gloomy way. But today they were behaving as if someone was born instead.

The Janaazah will be performed by Imam Zaid Shakir www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1...

Who apparently has been close religious adviser to the Ali family for over 10 years... So these claims that Muhammad Ali was a follower of some pseudo-sufi movement are erroneous.

Having said that, there will be a some sort of celebrity media circus surrounding the entire event, the family are selling tickets for the Janaazah on thursday, and a for a memorial service which is on friday with numerous clebrities, politicians, and leaders of other religions attending.
