How many Muslims does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer... 13 one to change the light bulb, 12 to stand around and argue as to the proper way to change it..lol.
Thats the problem were facing as a community.
My personal perception having good ideas is not enough in our community there are only two way to get things done firstly if your rich then you can fund your project.
Secondly if you are involved in some kind of advocacy group and you can work your way up in the ranks, to have sufficient clout to implement projects.
Another thing is there seems to be too much focus on Political activism not enough on Social activism....Looking at the Muslims in North America, if there was a small town with a large muslim community suffering from a spate of Robberies, the muslims would have gotten together to raise funds for the victims of those robberies.
Perhaps the Muslims in Dewsbury need to focus on serving there local community in such a manner that the local non-muslim population it self will stand up when the likes of EDL and Britain First come to town.
Just seeing the amazing grateful reaction on twitter to Muslim groups turning up to help in Carlisle during the recent floods shows peoples perceptions can be changed.
Thats easier said then done...Some months ago in a Local Masjid during Jumah the Imam announced it is School Holidays and some youngsters are going out to sweep the streets we encourage older members to also stay behind and help....People stood up in protest..." Moulvi Sahib we Pay our taxes who are you to tell us to sweep the streets, its the councils job." When this is the mindset of majority in our communities what hope is there to implement any intitiative.
Shukr is a great blessing, and when we express sincere gratitude towards others their hearts in turn become more affectionate towards us.
One easy way for each and everyone of us to be a light of Dawah is to be simply thankful towards other people through out each day.
Send an e-mail or a note to your local bus company thanking them for their service, if there was a particularly friendly driver during your journey then write to them mentioning and complimenting the driver.
A friendly person from the Electric company comes to check and take a meter reading, write to your Electric thanking them for the friendly service.
When you go to the local super market, and any other type of store , then on your return write an e-mail thanking them for the great service.
You go to fill the gasoline Tank up in your local garage, on your return write them a note thanking them for the service.
You go to the Doctors, dentists, local hospital for an appointment remember to write an e-mail thanking them.
When you write the e-mail sign of with an inspirational Hadith, an Ayaah of the Quran or an inspirational Islamic quote.
Thankfulness is a great form of passive Dawah... Whatsmore in many professions people receive hundreds complaints from the public rarely if ever do they receive a note or e-mail Thanking them for their service or help. You will be surprised by the grateful reaction you get for simple saying Thank You.
And remember the benefit of all deeds are through the sincerity of the Intention, ensure your Intention is for the sake of Allah.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
