On reaching the Keswick meeting point organised by Al Imdaad an army of muslim brothers arrived from Masjid e Hidaya (Blackburn) included Moulana Riyaz (Imaam), brothers from Preston, Dewsbury, Leeds, Birmingham and far away as London flocked the Keswick Convention Centre. There were approx 150 muslim brothers who were deployed to different areas around Cumbria which were flood stricken such as Keswick, Cockermouth, Kendal and Glenridding.

Team Al Anwaar was given the task to work in Glenridding with few brothers of Al Imdaad.

On reaching the small village with no aid but only with small gifts and offerred ourselves as a helping hand. The people of Glenridding were really touched in seeing muslims showing care and kindness not forgetting the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team accommodating us for salaah in their base.
Just by talking to the locals and portraying the teachings of our beloved prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم it showed the true characteristics what Islam is about.

The weather conditions in Glenridding was very poor with heavy snow falling and we we're told to leave the area. On returning a young couple was stuck in their vehicle in the snow and we went out to their aid.
Moulana Bilal (Imaam) says
"Highlight for me in an era when muslims are classified as terrorists and the worst people on earth, not trusted and deemed demons. People are actually terrified and scared of muslims. The young couple had so much faith and they trusted us so much that the husband asked us to take his wife in our car alone with us for a half n hour long journey and she was also more than happy to come with us".

We were approached by a priest and he said "I will be giving a service at the church tomorrow and I will be mentioning that muslims came to help".

Just being their with the hand of help and support was truely enough.

Update from Cumbria

One response from a resident was :
"I had nothing but hatred for you people but i would like to apologise to you, i am so sorry for thinking badly about you." She was weeping as she was speaking to the brothers, she also added,"I am going to make sure I tell people I know how wonderful you people are"
Whilst another lady assisted with cleaning out her home said " even if i won the lottery , i could not repay what you have done for me "

Masjid -al-hidayah volunteers
Since Storm Desmond caused havoc in Cumbria our teams have been responding with aid and relief efforts, many towns and cities have been affected and we aim to continue our support.

Thousands have been effected and the Al-Imdaad foundation UK are working around the clock to help these people affected and provide as much support as needed.

Our aim to provide 1000 blankets during December & January and deliver these over the holiday period. Please donate and make this possible.
