I happened to be traveling underground and Maghrib time had already commenced. I thought about making it to a proper Masjid before my Salah became Qadha. So I took a detour, went out of my way to get to a specific Masjid to offer Maghrib Salah, knowing that I had less than 15 minutes left for Esha to start.

I walked up to the Masjid gates and saw they were locked. Okay, that's understandable, but since Madrasah is also running at this time, I thought I'd be able to pray in time. I then saw little children (i think all girls) walking in from the side entrance, so I followed them and asked one of the fathers if I was able to enter the prayer hall from there and he said no.

I walked back to the front looking for a way in as I knew the Masjid is open.

Standing at the gates looking at my watch seeking a little space, an elderly man (probably security as he was wearing a high visibility jacket) comes out of the Masjid and asked me what I wanted.

I replied, "I NEED to pray Maghrib" to my astonishment he replied, "I'm sorry but we don't allow anyone in during these hours!"

I'm assuming he meant during the hours of Madrasah.

I was gob smacked. I pointed towards Qiblah and asked him if he could confirm the direction for me.

Now what? 10 minutes left for Esha to start. I looked around and saw that the space is very little, if I'd prayed on the street, I would have blocked the path as the distance between the Masjid gates and the road is small.

It was dark, it was wet and it was very busy too and it was rush hour.

I went to the back, walked back to the kids entrance and inside the gate and prayed outside on the wet floor.

Why?

I could hear the children commenting, I could hear the parents whispering and so on. What would they be thinking? This is a Masjid but this guy is praying outside, on a wet floor, why? One of the kids commented, "Wow, that's cool"

This is a well known Hanafi Deobandi Masjid in East London. A Masjid well known for being different yet correct.

Have you ever been told you can't come in to pray (especially when the mosque is open for other things)?

The only other time such a thing happened to me was when I walked into the Ahmadiya centre in London to offer Jummah and I was stopped and asked what I wanted. Of course I had no idea at the time who they were. Yuk!

subhanallah I was thinking of starting a similar thread on the dismal design and planning of some of our mosques.
the parking,the entrances,the flow at busy times and more .my local is abyssmal and has many issues which the council keep warning them about even threatening closure due to affecting traffic and road safety

This is because of the stupid management which has no care about Musallis, Ummah. I too faced issues that too 8.10 PM masjid is closed for Isha; they prayed Isha Jamaat at 7.45 following a High speed sunnah, witr & gates closed at 8.10 PM. That too in Chennai, India - LOL, majority of the people sleep only after 10 PM in chennai India.

We must take that Security chaacha for chilla jamaat.

I'm reluctant to name the Masjid as it is very popular and so is the Imaam. Although the Imaam wouldn't do that, I'm sure. after all, he is a decent Mufti.

Alhumdulillah, as expected, Mufti Saab has replied to my concerns and has been very positive about it, MashaAllah.

The Masjid had very valid reasons, however Mufti Saab did say that I should've been let into the Masjid.

InshaAllah, they will look into this in case it happens again.

Congratulations you've experienced how it feels to be a sister near a deobandi masjid at salah time!

As a Maulana once told me, sisters can pray outside the mosque just like how men find a place to pray when away from the mosque. It is not necessary to provide sisters with a space.

Hey maybe that masjid is following the thinking of the Maualana I mentioned, so you can find a place to pray outside as if you were far from the masjid, there is no need to let you in !

This reminds me of an experince I had when I visited London a few years ago...it was on a popular Indian street and the time for zuhr was finishing. I was with my family and the ladies were able to enter through the sisters side..but I couldn't find a way in so I went in through their side and entered the men's section. While I was doing wudu an uncle appeared from nowhere and was surprised to see me and accused me of sleeping in the masjid. If i remember correctly I think he got mad at me for entering through the ladies side too. But hey, zuhr was finishing and my family told me the coast was clear.
