because we have failed to communicate so many aspects of islamic character and social dealings in to real world terms.
we are guilty of masses of theory and literature but very little practice..

thus our pathetic condition today

Islam is not just for practice inside the mosques and in our homes
And also Islam is not just physical actions or clothing but an enlightened mindset

stephen r covey uses the phrase sharpen the saw
the individual can only be effective if he himself is prepared and made capable ,
in tasawwuf we are taught that without the correct iman, knowledge, discipline and know how efforts remain dulled by blunt efforts

meditation and prayer are part of coveys formulae for sharpening the individual, zikr and muraqabah

ketan j patel in his book the master strategist states that trials of life expands one mind beyond academic learning termed as hilm or ilm e ludduni in tasawwuf by
hazrat imam ghazalli r.a.

in the master strategist

victory over personal desires is mentioned...controlling the nafs
experience and awareness is considered more important than mere education....
awareness means to be in the flow of data...to be in the know,to know what to know .
being aware is a greater attribute than knowledge
flow of data...ILM
insight...hikmah and hilm
foresight..seeing with the noor of imaan

each of us must also know our station and remit in life and to work within that.
of course we all strive to be better and increase in all the positive human attributes on a daily basis but we have to check our nafs to see if our works /words and public life is to please allah taala or to become well known and influential .
if an acceptance from allah taala comes it will come without effort..known as "the opening"
if allah taala desires for you to remain secluded, all efforts will be in vain

some of this is also in futuh al ghaib a must read for those who have undergone great trials..and alhamdulillah a great source of comfort

what im trying to show is that the primary source of all knowledge beneficial to mankind is in islam, but we restrict to terming it as islamic knowledge .
we have to learn to communicate in the mainstream and in terms of human issues

the term "synergize" is used by covey

this is in essence mashwera ,consultation

even though we muslims of the u.k are facing great problems we still seem to be failing in our synergy
there still seems to be no great meeting of minds from across the u.k in how to deal with current legislation /terrorism and prevent issues ,no public meeting ,no consultation nothing on a national scale

there is a khatme nubuwwat conference
where is the anti terror and dealing with prevent guidelines conference

Tassawuf is 'reformation' of self. Tabligh is informing and motivating others for reform. The unit of society is the individual,if every individual is reformed the society is bound to reform. The usool are written and well known. Eslah needs company of the pious. It is a necessary ingredient of Tassawuf and part and parcel of Tabligh.Strong desire for eslah and pious company are the two pillars for any positive effort towards self construction plus reformation of the society as a whole.

strategy may not be rigid

maintain discipline. a belief in taqdeer

have compassion and love/think win/win

negate under and over reaction..dont provoke or humiliate

dont try to control everything

learn constantly

the nature of master strategy..is .difficult for others to understand..with infinite possibilties
needs experience and maturity..individuality

strategy may not be logical..or rigid
it may even be irrational
FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTIVE
truth..goodness..discipline.are .essential

even a belief in fate/detachment

conquer the base desires
have courage to question the self

there is no real outcome..only a flow of events

failure is a lesson,,like a game in a flow of events

INNOVATE..IMPROVE..GROW..EXPLORE..CHANGE..INFLUENC E

all this is tasawwuf and tazkiyyah
yet self help books and authors claim it for themselves
and we fail to communicate tasawwuf in to real world terms and practice

In 1859 Samuel Smiles wrote a book called "Self Help" and since then an entire industry has been built around it. It became popular
when the New Christian Though movement emerged. They combined Chritistian teachings, with eastern philosophies from Buddhism to Hinduism, and Sufism and human psychology. Although this movement was opposed by Traditional christians.

In present day it is known as The New Age Movement, alot of the literature has to do with positive thinking, setting Goals, time Management, overcoming difficulties, human relationships, organising your personal finances and budgetting etc. Essentially the Self Help industry sells Optimism some of the more popular books have been translated in many languages, and are popular through out the Muslim world.

Self Help and Motivational seminars, are very popular amongst the Educated and Business elite in many muslim countries, From Karachi, To Kuala Lumpur, to Cairo.

So the issue is the Muslims have failed to sell the Practical Benefits of Islam to your average Muslim. So The Self Help industry is filling the void. The problem is in the Marketing and the delivery of Islam to the main stream.

The question is when asking people to participate, in Tabligh Jamaat if you gave the following pitch courtesy of Sunniforum, would the number of participants Increase, decrease or remain the same????
(bism1)
La hawla Wala Quwwata Illah Billah

السلام عليكم

Well every medicine has side effects and for me the fascinating thing is that although the Tabligh Jamaat was developed as a spiritual movement, it has beneficial side effects that helps develop an individuals characteristics that will help him succeeed in the Duniya. So Tabligh with the right intentions not only benefits an individual spiritually but also, helps develops his mental capacities and strength in wordly pursuits.

So here is a list of the psychological obstacles that prevent people achieving success and Pursuing their business career and spiritual goals etc and how Tabligh can help.

1) Fear of rejection......in a career or business endeavor a person must be able to deal with rejection and keep steadfast when trying to negotiate contracts or gain promotion. etc.

In a tabligh a person has to learn how to deal with rejection Constantly, and after a while a person will become immune and keep striving.

2) Fear Of Failure, people are so overwhelmed with failing that they never even try to pursue their goals.

In Tabligh an indvidual learns that success and Failure is with Allah, he puts in the effort and leaves the rest upto Allah., he overcomes these feelings of Failure.

3) Inability to work as part of a Team,( in any career a person has to develop contacts and business relationships to help him succeeed.)

In Tabligh a person is surrounded by Sathis whose personalities or habits he may find annoying, but he learns to be tolerant, and work with others, for the sake of Dawah, thus it enhances his Teamwork skills.

4) Communication skills...One of the biggest obstacles in the Business world can be for a person with bad communication skills and lack of Confidence, indviduals can get extremely nervous at job interviews when negotiating contracts or have difficultie motivating others.

In Tabligh an individual is helped to develop his confidence and Communication skills by speaking to an audience and doing Dawah. So Tabligh helps develop both his communication skills.and enhance his self-confidence.

5) Repetition, to master any skill a person needs to repeat it over and over again, whether in a trade or even learning to drive...Often people do not progress because their attention spans are low and they get bored easily.

In Tabligh an individual reads the Fazail e Amaal over and over again, thus learning to master the art of repetition and enhance his skills of concentration and increase his attention span and repel boredom.

6) Stepping out of the comfort zone,......Many people never achieve success because they are afraid to step out of their comfort zone, they consistently speak of pursuing new careeers or starting a business etc. yet they only talk about these things and they never do them they are afraiid to leave their comfort zones.

In Tabligh an indviduals can face many dangers and difficulties thus they are constantly challenged by their circumstances whilst out in Gasht to step outside their comfort zones, so Tabligh helps and indvidual Develop courage and overcome Fear.

So essentially Tabligh develops an Indvidual mentally and Spiritually like no other movement..It was the Great Wisdom of Maulana Ilyas (RA) that he initiated a movement for the complete developement of an individual. Note: In the west many people pay money to attend courses to develop the skills I have outlined above, and of course with Tabligh its completely free.
The issue here is that we have the product and we are not marketing it properly.

In Addition to the above, we seem to lack practical commonsense..!

Many of our speakers highlight the problems we are facing, instead of promoting the solutions. For example your average Muslim feeling depressed about his own life, and the situation of Muslims in his community and of muslims around the world decides to find some solace by attending a talk in the Masjid. The speaker gets up and starts speaking about the situation of Muslims... "We Have young Brothers selling Drugs and Pimping we have young sisters addicted to crack, smack selling their bodies to feed their addiction etc..." So that average Muslim leaves the Masjid feeling even more depressed and in a state of despair and hopelessness then before he arrived. Starts looking for solace elsewhere.

I heard an American speaker years ago talk at a local Masjid on the same topic notice the positive difference and hope and optimism..." I know a young Brother who was $150,000 a week as the head of a Drugs gang, Allah by his grace guided him, he gave up that lifestyle completely, committed himself to Deen and today he is Studying at Al Azhar. There was a sister who was a prostitute and an addict on the streets of Chicago but Allah guided her,and today she is dressed in Niqaab, doing Dawah she has become a source of guidance for dozens of others, no matter what your situation or your background you submit to Allah then he bestow peace and tranquility upon you and will change your life for the better in ways you could have never imagined.."

Hope and Optimism should be at the forefront rather then despair and dejection.... Thats what the Self Help industry is about Hope and optimism.

Whats more you have Corporations in West, and Churches and Charities etc. Who have one fundamental principle. If an individual makes contact concerning a problem you respond no matter how irrational the complaint...., and if they make a contact offering advice and suggestions no matter how ridiculous the idea, you still gracefully respond " Thank you for feed back we very much appreciate the advices you have offered."

The objective is to never allow any individual to feel disenchanted.

This is one of the gripes of many muslims that when they make contact offering advice, and seeking solution to their difficulties they receive Zero response from our organisations....People get more upset about being ignored, then they do about being spoken to harshly, silent treatment leaves a major emotional scar. So if we do not respond to the youth they are gonna look elsewhere.

These are basic common sense communication and outreach solutions, that should be easy to implement how difficult is it to write an e-mail and respond to someone. Then we complain about muslims turning away from the deen what else can we expect.

On Sunniforum over a year ago, a young School kid, traumatised because he was being bullied at School wrote desperately seeking advice, here.... www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?120888-Please-hel...

To date not a single response , my blood boils with rage everyone time I see his post. Imagine the impact of being ignored upon him...Thats going to leave a an emotional scar.
