| The Jinn Speaks! |
| Question: An Amil claims that he can trap a Jinn in a person and makes him speak how he has come in to the person and who sent him. Is the information given by the trapped Jinn correct and can such information be relied upon? Sometimes the Jinn even names close family members and friends that are behind the plot. The information is shocking and angers us. We can't believe such people will stab us in the back and be two faced. Now I am extremely angry at those family members who were named by the Jinn. I have severed family ties from that person and naturally I look at that person with hatred and enmity. The Amil says the information given by the Jinn is reliable. I am desperately asking your guidance. Is there an alternative to not consulting such Aamils? Answer: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Shariah emphasizes on verifying information. Allah says: يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَنْ تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ Translation: O you who believe! If a Faasiq (liar - evil person) comes to you with any news, verify it, lest you should harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful for what you have done" (Al- Hujaraat: 49-6) It is clear from the above verse that it is not permissible to accept information without verifying the information. An information can only be accepted if the informer is
If the condition of the informer is unknown or if he is not trustworthy or he has a bad memory or the information is indirect and the means are questionable, such information will be rejected. The above are requirements to accept or reject an information. The laws of Shahadah (witnessing and cross examining) are more. In the enquired case, we do not know with certainty whether the Jinn is speaking or not. The sound of the person is the same as the affected person. Assuming the Jinn is speaking, how is it possible to verify the Jinn's trustworthiness as the Jinn cannot be seen in the first place? Furthermore, assuming the voice from the affected person is that of the Jinn, the Jinn is at least a Faasiq if not a Kaafir as it has violated Shariah by coming into a person. The information of a Faasiq is clearly rejected. If the Jinn can commit such a great violation, speaking lies and concocting stories and making false accusations are relatively minor violations for the Jinn. If you accept the information of the Jinn, that is an insult to one's intelligence. In fact, it is a sin to even accept such information. Allah has warned us to abstain from suspicion. He says: يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اجْتَنِبُوا كَثِيرًا مِنَ الظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ الظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ Translation: "Oh you who believe! Avoid much suspicion (zann), indeed some suspicions are sins." (Al-Hujuraat: 12) Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: إِيَّاكُمْ وَالظَّنَّ فَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ أَكْذَبُ الْحَدِيثِ Translation: "Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the gravest lie..." If one accepts the information from the Jinn, it will facilitate suspicion which leads to a host of other sins, enmity, serving family ties, backbiting etc. In reality, accepting such information compounds the problem and brings more pain to the affected person. It is Wajib to reject such information and defy the Shaytaan. There is always Barakah in practicing on Shariah and the guidelines of Shariah in everything. In brief, according to Shariah the information from the Jinn is unreliable. If one relies on such information, he will be guilty of negligence and also a victim of Shaytaan by spreading evil. The manzil consist of 33 verses of the Quran, they are prescribed as a protection from black magic, and jinns[1] etc. by Rasullullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), and tested and tried by many, such as, Muhammad bin Sireen[2] (Rahimahullah). The practice of reading it and blowing the manzil into rose water or oud is a tried and tested method. Also, ones yaqeen (conviction) should always be upon Allah.
