What Caused Kashmir Problem?
By the Grace of Allah SWT after the establishment of Al-Jazeera in 1996 we can see some rays of joy when the Muslim world is taking note of the problems of Muslims around the world. For the moment kindly hold on your criticism of this channel because I would like to share my positive vibes after seeing a few articles that one could not even dream of till now.
Here Rifat Fareed tells us about the massacre of Muslims that triggered the Kashmir problem.
Quote:
In November 1947, thousands of Muslims were massacred in Jammu region by mobs and paramilitaries led by the army of Dogra ruler Hari Singh.
The exact number of casualties in the killings that continued for two months is not known but estimates range from 20,000 to 237,000 and nearly half million forced into displacement across the border into the newly created nation of Pakistan and its administered part of Kashmir.

At the time of partition the issue of princely states came up for consideration. According to Leonard Mosley in his Last days of the Raj the Monarch in England was positively inclined to these states because she, the Queen, had a friendly relationship with them. Whatever princely states were falling in Indian side of the geography they were assimilated into India by Sardar Patel supported by Nehru. Gandhian support must have been there for this kind of issue was too mundane to invoke his direct intervention. Maulana Azad does not seem to be in the equation for, a posteriori, it looks like he had from the beginning assumed a position of subjugation to the then and would be majority community.
Hence in Hyderabad, Junagarh and Kashmir the assimilation stories are rather cringe worthy.
