New Delhi: Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah, which is closed for the visitors since March in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, will re-open only after September 5, members of the shrine committee said.
How peaceful and contentment Hazrat Muhammad Nizamuddin Auliya R.A.'s soul must have felt during these past five months.
This is an eye opening interview of a journalist who has written a book that tells us the stories of three individuals who had actively participated in the Gujarat riots of 2002.
Important points:
People from the lower classes rioted and killed Muslims and burnt down houses and looted shops under the incitement of upper class hindutva leaders.
Those who rioted were later rewarded with money and power by the hindutva government.
The Indian middle class is largely indifferent to hindutva, even supportive of it, due to the lack of a coherent alternative.
The RSS has done grass root work for social and educational upliftment. The RSS has won over the hearts and minds of Hindu youth because of their outreach, and they see the RSS as their benefactors.
Polarization of Indian society is now largely complete on the national level, beginning with Gujarat in 2002.
Indian intelligentsia are disconnected from the mentality of the masses and that is why they were surprised by the return of Modi in 2019.
Epilogue:
It looks like things are going to get a lot worse before they even begin to get better for Muslims in India. If Indian Muslims are able to get their act together, we might see a change for the better after three generations.
Does this mean that we should not engage in any kind of dialogue with right wing conservatives in India? Or does it mean that the right wing in India is incapable of communal harmony?
Since I have, sadly, not reached very conclusive stage in this regard it is very difficult for me to reply in a very decisive manner. But I still have a few things to add on this point.
My personal view is that we have a lot of talking to do with the liberal democrats - the Congress and the others. That is what we should take up with all earnestness.
Listen to Mehbooba Mufti question the wisdom of Kashmir’s accession to India: “We, the people of Kashmir, who had aligned with India with great hope, and rejected the 2-nation theory, it seems that we were wrong in choosing India over Pakistan...”
Hindu insecurity in India vis-a-vis Islam and Muslims is at the peak.
A Facebook friend who is not given to this propaganda wrote a very bleak post about this news article.
Quote:
In the last few days, three excellent articles in the Indian Express (by Christophe Jaffrelot, Apurva Vishwanath and Abhinav Chandrachud) have clarified the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020. I will try to consolidate their larger implications.
Somehow my mood on this issue is different.
My feeling is that sooner or later Muslims will take their affairs in their own hands.
The Saffron insurgence is based on a premise - the majoritarian paradigm.
Whole of the majority community may not be with the Saffron.
In fact the peak of coagulation of Hindu right is past.
My impression is that even the Indian left has the strength to take on the resurgent Saffron.
Same can be said of the Dalits. If they have the courage.
The socialists are in big enough strength to take on the Saffron.
Of course the Lib-Dem, the Congress, is most well placed to take on the Saffron.
Sadly no one worked at trying to isolate the Saffron.
And that includes the Muslims.
Muslims did not work seriously to isolate the Saffron.
What could 15% have done to contain the saffron? That responsibility laid with the 85%. No one cares about Indian Muslims' suffering. Those opposing Modi are the same ones that put him in power in 2014 and 2019 and are only opposing him today for economical reasons and not ideological. Those poor labourers walked for hundreds of kilometres for days to Bihar only to vote in BJP and Nitish babu again. Will die hungry but vote for Modi again and again because modiji ne mullon ko 2002 me sabak sikhaya tha.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
