I feel you did not understand the point I was making. Just because he does not takle fiqhi differences, does not mean that he does not have his personal bias/opinion. Similarly just because you have not come across his opinions does not mean other scholars have not come across any as well.

In any case, I choose not to say anything in relation to Sh. Menk due to what Bhai Muadh said, confidentiality issues.

Oh Bhai Muadh, btw there was an audio verification of Sh. Musa Menk's father confirming him to be hanafi as well.

Wassalamu Alaikum

Subhanallah I had no idea what a drama this has become. Various claimants to the salafi manhaj have their evidences on facebook regarding whether Mufti Menk is salafi or deobandi. There is the video by the Shaikh Waseullah, which uses a phone call to Mufti Menk's father as evidence. Apparenly the ahlul hadeeth caller made it appear he was a deobandi, seeking to clarify accusations that Mufti Menk is salafi, hence the response from Mufiti Menk's father. But wait...... other less extreme salafis have email correspondence and whatsap conversations as evidence about Mufti Menk's aqeedah and fiqh preferences, and they are using it to prove once and for all where Mufti Menk stands! And to top it off we already have some South African Deobandis who are quick to label Mufti Menk as salafi, using Mufti Menk's views from a conference held some years back in South Africa as one evidence against him on their fatwa website. Things are heating up.

On a serious note this is a very sad situation, and I am saddened by this fanaticism and extremism from whichever side it comes from. May Allah increase us in beneficial knowledge and practice and forgive our shortcomings.

Read all the revelations and there is nothing so far which makes me change my opinion from many months ago.

The situation is not very clean and I am unable to provide facts due to confidentiality issues. I will say 2 things which should be sufficient for people to make up their minds:

  1. 100%: Shaykh (Mufti) Menk (HA), his father, wife and family and all Hanafees
  2. GUESS & DEDUCTION! Shaykh (Mufti) Menk (HA) is likely not of the opinion that Taqleed Shaksi is Waajib

Mufti Menk is not a salafi. However he is not a deobandi as well. I think muadh khan's post summarizes his position well. I have listened to him a number of times before he became famous and I don't ever recall him ever saying anything controversial. I see him as a normal alim whose recitation captivates the heart. He has some close relatives in my local area. His father is trying to paint him as a deobandi but I don't think this is the case. Just because somebody did khidmat of maulana qamruz zaman that makes them a deobandi? A lot of the hatred towards him seems to be based on envy.

So what makes one deobandi?

I think his father is trying to show he is more deobandi than salafi, having studied under bott institutions and initially it was the deobandi's who threw the mud at him, what the truth is exactly then walahualam

According to South African Ulama & British Sufees Taqleed Shaksi is Waajib; according to my best Guess (and it is just a Guess) Mufti Menk is NOT Deobandi as per this definition.

  1. South African Ulama (en masse) don't write or admit that this is the definition they use when judging Ulama
  2. Laymen Deobandees have little clue as to what this is

Mufti Menk is 100% not Madkhali either.

He is more like a normal dude just not a "Talweed Shaksi" Muqallid.

So anyone who is guiding and inspiring the youth, is being targeted by the envious.
Mufti Menk, Maulana Tariq Jameel, Noman ali Khan, Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmed, it is very sad.

The people engaged in this type of jealous behaviour, have no clue as to the harm they are doing.

Some years ago a local brother i know who had spent his entire youth, living the gangster lifestyle in and out of jail, got to his late forties, and decided to change, he started attending lectures grew a beard, dressing sunnah, but many months later, he had shaved his beard was back to his old life...When asked what happened, his response not his exact words but something along the lines of..." When I was on the street not a single one of these religious guys approached me to talk to me about the deen, soon as I start going to the masjid, all of them surround me like a swarm, brother dont go to that masjid their deviants, the others approach me with dont go to that masjid their deviant, each and everyone trying to get me to join their group, so in my conclusion their all deviant".

And sadly it's usually due to these over zealous types of fanatics that they put others off, many have gone back to their old ways and lost the little Islam they had because due to these jealous judgemental fools, we're everyone else is a deviant expect them, only they are on the Haqq and have exclusive rights to it.

Pathetic fools.

The problem is Brothers coming of the street, especially the younger ones, are usually attracted to a particular style of personality, when that Shaykh is attacked or slandered they quickly become disenchanted . Had a Shaykh local, to me who was slandered by the envious with some horrific allegations, those allegations were some months later proven categorically to be false...But the damage was done this shaykh was a charismatic guy, attracted a lot of the youth of the streets, Brothers who one never would have imagined seeing in the Masjid, started practicing, the kind of brothers who had not even been in masjid in decades literally, not even for Eid,....Many of them were still struggling and soon as the Shaykh got slandered lost hope , and quite a few of them stopped attending the masjid and back to square one.

People sometimes leave because they cannot be bothered to practice deen. They then start to look for things to blame.
