I'll do it, ya Akhi, at a leisurely pace.
But this is one topic about which every Muslim should be aware.
When our youngsters will know about our glorious ancestors then it is less likely that they will adopt western models as their ideals.

السلام عليكم

" Dr. Muhammad Musa Al-Shareef (haf) was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and graduated from the Faculty of Shari'ah, Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University, in 1408 A.H. He obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in the Qur'an and the Sunnah from Faculty of Usul Ad-Din (Theology) - Umm Al-Qura University. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Islamic Studies, King Abdul Aziz University."

I too find his talks very interesting.. balanced person Masha Allah.. i have found through someone that the Shaikh is a Muqallid and holds the ulema of Deoband in high esteem. Also a votary of Tasawwuf.

His lecture on Emperor Sultan Alamgir Aurangzeb رحمة الله عليه is just amazing..

we need more of such people teaching in Saudi..

wa Assalam..

Furthermore :

Great Muslims In History
Quote:

One of the important factors in the development and behaviors of the societies of the world today is the impact of role models. Now, more than ever, role models are affecting the lives of all races and classes of people around the world. Because of mediums such as television, radio, telephone and the internet, many role models, such as movie stars, athletes, musicians and politicians, have become quite popular around the world.

However, such role models do not necessarily represent the ideal style of life, practices and beliefs that are wanted for the Muslim. When Muslims look up to sinful or disbelieving people who have been portrayed in the media to be successful and famous, they began to feel inferior to them. Satan may even deceive them into feeling that the reason for the non-Muslims' worldly success is their following of ways other than Islam.

Musa al-Shareef presents the stories of some of the greatest heroes and role models of Islam. The efforts and sacrifices of these people for the sake of Allah's religion will show us who we are and what we really are capable of when we have strong belief in Allah

Very relevant quotation brother Jinn.

That is precisely my motivation behind this thread. We should talk about modern role models who can be emulated in present times.

Jazakallah for the relevant info Dr Sahab.

Alamgir is my top priority - the statement by Shaikh As-Sharif in that video simply sent me into intense pain. He said that Muslims should not mourn for Spain going out of our hands rather we should mourn for India. Loss of India is much more severe.

(1) In other lectures Shaikh dresses in traditional Arabian attire but in this one he is wearing western clothes. Jetlag is obvious.

(2) Twelve hundred years ago a Muhaddis said that Islam is great but it needs men. Same is true today. More so because in those times thousands of dedicated Muslims were there.

(3) This is the nature of Islam. We need people who make sacrifices.

(4) Progress of Islam. Makkah --> Madinah --> Arabian Peninsula --> Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco ...

(5) First Mosque in Africa: Mosque of Amr bin Aas in Cairo.

(6) Followers of beloved Prophet (PBUH), sahab (RA) and Tabioon (RA), moved to Tunisia, first Libya, it was called Barqa.

(7) These were Tabi-oon who moved further south to Mauritania.

(8) In fourth century people from Morocco moved down to Africa - today's Mali, Senegal and those areas.

(9) People in that area entered Islam with no bloodletting.

(10) This is a long journey from Makkah, Madinah, Egypt, Libya to Central Africa. And there are Muslims there today.

(11) So what did those people give to Islam and what are we giving? I am not a mere history narrator.

(12) Living here in America you have a wonderful opportunity to give the people here Islam. They need it.

(13) They do not know what is Islam. If they new then things will change significantly.

(14) For twenty three years beloved Prophet (PBUH) was calling people towards Islam and then his followers were doing the same.

(15) With above long journey they brought Islam to Africa.

(16) So let us ask ourselves a serious question. What have we done for Islam? What have we done for our people? What have we done for these people? What have we done for non-Muslims all over the world?

(17) I went to Malaya that is now Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and some other countries.

(18) People from Yaman moved to Malaya via India and spread Islam in that region and today we have Muslim population there. 300 million Muslims.

(19) Both africa and Malaya have Muslims because of the character of the Muslims that took Islam there.

(20) If you carry shariah with good character and moral then people adopt Islam. We got to adopt that approach today.

(21) I was in France and about two hundred thousand people gathering was there. I was told that France has six to seven million Muslims. What did they do for Islam? (What have you done here?) But then seventy percent of the prisoners in France are Muslims. Their influence there is weak for they are not setting good examples.

(22) I came here first time in 1991, in Florida. Here Muslims live for their job, their family, wife and children. What about others? islam? Muslims? They do not care. I told them that beloved Prophet (PBUH) and his followers and their followers were not like this.

(23) If you want to do something for Islam and Muslims you have to be different (from what you are today). they talked about the activities of the Islamic centers. that is Alhamdulillah good but again what did you do for Islam?

(24) Masha Allah here there are eight million Muslims. They can do a lot for Islam. That is what happened in Africa. Muslims of that day took long journeys (to spread Islam). What did they find there? They found that people there knew no religion - Islam or otherwise. They made sacrifices, time, money, life, to spread Islam. In fact they settled down there. This is a big sacrifice for people coming from Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco coming from civilized regions they settled in africa and millions of people became Muslims.

This is what we need today.

Hadhrat, would not really consider it "western clothing" what the Shaykh [hafizahullah] is wearing in that talk. It's just a coat above the typical arabic jubbah he's wearing. Other than that masha'Allah an amazing, quite beneficial summary on a topic I never heard any speaker dedicate a talk to.

Jazakallah my brother.
In times of good fortune from Allah (SWT) we can absorb even large disappointments.
In difficult times even small problems arrest your flow.
Hence I made above observation but thanks for clarifying the matter.

I am progressively updating the post above because it is difficult to find time to finish a lecture in a single go.

A Satanic Trick : Disconnect Muslims from Post Rasoolallah (SAW) Islamic Figures

A very learned young brother wrote on facebook that we do not need any role models apart from beloved Rasoolallah (SAW).

Yes and no.

Yes we do not need any other role model apart from beloved Rasoolallah (SAW) because he is the last role model sent to us.

But this does not rule out the need to look for modern copies of that role model.
These modern copies of the role model are the pious Muslims of today.

Actually that young brother got convinced by the current Ghair Muqallid crowd who are trying to create an environment against our Elders in particular and our approach to Islam in general.

Beloved Rasoolallah (SAW) said that every hundred years a Mujaddid will be born in my Ummah who shall revive the teachings of islam. This Mujaddid can not simply be a theoretician he has to be a practical example also - a role model or a copy of the real role model, to be more pedantic.

Let us take the example of Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi. he wrote very fervent books about Islam and many people got inspired by his enthusiasm for Islam. But many of these people got disillusioned with Maulana Maudoodi because when they visited his home they found tidbits of life style that was not in accordance with his writings.

Personally this sinner will not hold that against Maulana Maudoodi for he was human and hence had limitations.
But then we also realize that he was not really a role model in real practical sense.
When you do not have current role models then you start thinking that Islam is a theoretical system suitable for one and half a millennium ago and hence no relevance today. People might end up in a very dangerous conclusion that Islam is a pie in the sky, bye and bye.

For actual implementation of Islam we do need role models even today.
And we can not discard the role models of yesterday too.
