So My wife talking to one of her Salafi friends about Hajj and it is common practice for people to ask for forgiveness from friends an families before they go. But this salafi was very funny about this practice in the usual salafi way.

Myself, Ive never heard this "requirement" per say from a Sharia perspective but have always though of it as a the "better thing to do" purely because, InshaAllah if your Hajj if accepted then you will return with a "Clean Slate" so the last thing you want is for previous issues with people to hang over you etc etc. Also by asking for forgiveness your killing the pride inside of you.

Also because in the past this journey was so long and trecherous quiet a few people didnt return back home, maybe also cos they were very old by the time they saved up for it and died in the rush etc etc...

So have any one else had this conversion or food for thought?

Would be nice to get a better understanding.

It's a good idea and a very common practice amongst Asians and Jews.

Jews do the same thing every year on their special day, I forget the name. They say that if they don't get forgiven by the people, then God will not accept their worship.

From a Muslim perspective, think about this...

Allah is all forgiving, most merciful but (and not taking Hajj into consideration) if you have backbitten someone, then only that person can forgive you, as it is them you have done wrong to. So clearly, you ask them to forgive you if you have done or said anything wrong or bad, knowingly or unknowingly. But if they ask you what wrong you have done, you will have to tell them.

Alhumdulillah, for many this is not the case, because they would not have wronged anyone in the first place to be going round asking for forgiveness.

Assalaamu 'alaykum ww
If I may add the advice of Shaykh M S Dhorat on this issue, he says this going around should not be for the sake of custom...in fact one should definitely go and see those people whom one has wronged in any way and with whom there has been tensions. What usually happens amongst our people is that we go and see everyone amongst family and friends except those we really should go and see i.e. those whose forgiveness we should ask.

I dont remember him saying that. The way i understood it is that we should not go visiting with the fear of what people will say if we dont make the rounds yet its nice to ask close family and friends to make du'a for you and to seek forgiveness as its quite likely we have at one time or other caused hurt. The point was that we visit everyone we're friendly with but actually leave out those whom we need to go and ask for forgiveness....and Allah ta'ala knows best, please ask a scholar if in doubt

Ok cool.

So it's not a practice that's associated with hajj per say, but its good "adhab" to do this as it will help remove pride in ones heart and help one perform hajj and beg for forgiveness sincerely to Allah.

Make perfect sense to me, but I suppose that's coz in not a salafi and don't answer every question with DALEEL DALEEL DAEEF! lol

JazakaAllah
