My work mate was sent a whole dvd series, a gift from his dad. Unfortunately he never heard any of his talks before. But fortunately for me, he copied the whole set. MashaAllah, amazing, superb.

A joke with a serious lesson from Mufti Menk. (in my own words, sorry can't remember it word for word)

A business man needed an accountant so he put out a notice for a job opportunity.

3 men arrived for the job interview, 2 non Muslim and 1 Muslim.

The business man called in the first non Muslim into the cabin. He said he was going to ask only one question and wanted the correct answer only. Any other answer and the interview was over and no job offered.

The question he asked him was,

What is 1+1?
So the non Muslim man replied instantly, "2".
The business man said that was the wrong answer and that the interview was over.

Due to his quick exit, the other two men were caught by surprise and asked him what had happened. He explained the whole scene to them.

The second non Muslim man was called in, and he was asked the same question. Since he knew 2 was the wrong answer he tried a different approach and said 1&1 make 11.

The business man was not happy and told him the interview was over.

Once again a quick exit, so now the only person left was the Muslim man. He asked this person what had happened and he too gave him the whole scenario and his answer.

Finally, the Muslim man is called in.for the interview. The business man asks him the very same question. "What is 1+1?".

The Muslim man says to the business, "close the doors, close the curtains, close the windows, make sure no one can hear us." Then he says to the business man "What would you like it to be". And this got the Muslim man his job as the accountant.

What a sad state we Muslims have got into.

Learn To Share

If we would like to achieve success and gain greater blessings in what we have or earn, we must learn to share whatever we have with others. The Almighty has a special Mercy upon those who share their possessions with others.

Never let the heart be so deeply attached to wealth or other belongings because the day we are tested in those things, we will find it very difficult to overcome such tests or even to understand the wisdom in the Almighty’s Plan. From childhood we should train our offspring to share their toys, food and other belongings where possible so that as they grow they learn to love this great habit and feel very happy and blessed to share.

Some take sharing as a burden whereas others claim not to have enough to be able to share when in fact they have more than enough. The Great Companions shared even at times of their own desperate need for the same item – which was sometimes food and drink. Although we may not get to that level of selflessness, if we aim there, we will be able to get nearer. The Almighty says, “You will never achieve true righteousness until you spend from that which you love most.” S 3:92

Power Of Unity

The huge ocean is made up of minute droplets and the massive mountain of minute grains whereas singularly a droplet would evaporate and a grain would be blown away insignificantly!

The power of unity is shown to us through almost everything around us but man still chooses to look for the smallest thing that divides.

Singularly we are insignificant but together we can make the globe a better place. If we have ten differences, we will have a thousand common factors.

Naming Children

Parents are responsible to give their children the best names possible.

When naming our children we should ensure a beautiful meaning rather than an exotic sounding name void of meaning. Some parents ignorantly choose names that have a bad meaning just because it sounds good. The child grows up being called a bad name.

It is wise to choose a name that will be pronounced with ease by the community the child will grow up in. This will avoid distortions or changes in meaning due to being mispronounced.

      Be a Good Host/Visitor

When visiting the homes of family members, relatives, friends or others we must never be a burden upon them.

Visiting unannounced, at awkward times, sitting too long, asking too many questions, speaking too loudly, allowing our children to run a mock if they are with us etc is all unethical.

We should also be considerate of those we visit by not allowing them to prepare snacks or meals for us when they are busy, sickly or in a rush to go somewhere.

On the other hand when people visit us although we should honour them, we do not have to prepare sophisticated meals & fries etc all the time. A simple snack or glass of water would also suffice.

Whether more or less, whatever is served must be from the depth of our hearts.

Vulgar and immoral speech.

The Messenger pbuh says, “A true believer is neither vulgar nor immoral when he speaks”.

Many of us use words that we are prohibited to use, and get so used to using such language that we don’t even realise what we are uttering.

Using such words is sinful even if we are joking, and it results in the loss of blessings in our lives, the discomfort to the angels of protection who distance themselves from us, losing respect among fellow human beings and setting a very bad precedent in our families and societies.

It also diminishes our spirituality and strengthens the link with Satan.

It has a great negative effect on our minds and overall temperament.

For this and many other reasons, we must never utter vulgar or immoral words.

Speaking using the best and purest language will create a blessed look on our faces to begin with and result in us being respected and blessed at the same time. Our general lives will begin to improve and we will see this clearly and feel it truly.

Are we ready to promise the Creator that we will improve on this immediately?
